Transportation Analyst Trainee 1
To be considered for appointment through NY HELPS, or 55 b/c, candidates must meet the open competitive minimum qualifications for this position. The qualifications are:
A bachelor's degree including or supplemented by 24 qualifying semester credit hours*.
Transportation Analyst Trainee 2
A bachelor's degree including or supplemented by 24 qualifying semester credit hours* AND
Either 1. One year of qualifying experience** OR
A bachelor's degree including or supplemented by 24 qualifying semester credit hours* AND
Either 1. Two years of qualifying experience** OR
If chosen, you may, at the agency's discretion, be appointed to a higher level. You must inform the agency of any additional qualifications at your interview.
Candidates may also be qualified for permanent competitive appointment if reachable from the appropriate Civil Service eligible list or eligible for reassignment or transfer in accordance with Civil Service Law.

Under the supervision of the Asset Management and Planning Program Manager (PE1), the selected candidate will:
- Become a subject matter expert in Asset Management System functionality to assist with training, system administrator roles, troubleshooting problems for users, and quality control and assurance for Traffic Signals and Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS).
- Aid in guiding the future of the Traffic Signal and ITS asset management programs as the Department further progresses into the field of connected and automated vehicles.
- Assist with reporting, performance metrics, and program analytics for Main Office and Regional Traffic Signal Technicians for asset inventory, condition, and lifecycle investments.
- Work closely with other office staff to troubleshoot and resolve any Asset Management related issues and develop guidance on other procedural matters as directed.
- Support the management of the Traffic Signal Improvement Program (TSIP) by aiding in the development of purchasing contracts and performing specification reviews for Traffic Signals and ITS.
- Assist in reviewing and finalizing shop drawings and other correspondence received from vendors.
- Act as the Regional liaison for the Department’s Signal Permit Program.

- Qualifying Experience is directly related to highways or transportation in either planning, engineering management, systems analysis or quantitative analysis of transportation or Highway systems and must have included direct responsibility for the preparation of written material such as narrative reports, letters of memoranda documenting the accomplishments and/or supervision of such activity. Additionally, this professional experience must have included one or more of the following: the identification an documentation of transportation problems and needs; the inventory, data analysis and description of highway or other transportation facilities, conditions or performance; the analysis and evaluation of existing or proposed transportation services including plans, programs, projects and policies; the development and/or coordination of transportation plans or policies; the development of projects for transportation facilities and/or service improvements (including traffic engineering or safety improvements); supervision and coordination of local transportation planning programs; the development and/or evaluation of transportation planning methods or models or program techniques or strategies.
