What are the responsibilities and job description for the Purchasing Agent/Buyer (Level 1) position at O'Brien Steel?
A Purchasing Agent/Buyer-Level 1 is responsible for working with internal sales personnel and external vendors to forecast and fulfill the company’s inventory and outside processing requirements. This position requires working with operations and office personnel on a daily basis for a multi-site environment. Level 1 buyers work within predetermined parameters with limited scope and authority.
- Administering outside processing purchase orders (core function).
- Researching and comparing suppliers, goods, prices, lead times, and services while assisting with vendor selection.
- Maintaining inventory levels and inventory turns within company objectives.
- Forecasting inventory to determine purchasing requirements over extended time horizons.
- Working with the sales teams to determine purchase needs.
- Requesting cost proposals and negotiating contracts and prices, within predetermined guidelines.
- Preparing and processing purchase orders to approved vendors.
- Maintaining/verifying records of all transactions, purchase orders and receipts.
- Scheduling and verifying purchase deliveries.
- Maintaining positive, long-term supplier relations.
- Strong attention to detail
- Ability to problem solve
- 2-4 years of experience in a purchasing function, preferred
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office
- Strong verbal and written communication skills

Pay: $20.00 - $22.00 per hour
