POSITION SUMMARY
The Non-Emergency Medical Transport Driver is responsible for driving the vehicle to and from rehab facilities, nursing homes, home, and other hospital (at times with a driver assistant on board). This position maintains the safety and security of the vehicle and equipment, checks, and maintains vehicle equipment and supplies. Acts as face-to-face customer service for clients when on routes.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF DRIVER:
- Pick-up clients at home or other living facilities. Provides the assistance required to safely board clients and caregivers.
- Transport clients to appointments and back to home and other medical facilities
- Ensures wheelchairs, and ambulatory passengers are properly secured before starting the vehicle.
- On arrival at the medical facility, assists clients in exiting the vehicle and reaching the proper offices or treatment areas.
- Check the vehicle to ensure that no personal items are left behind.
- Follow company safety and operational rules and procedures.
- Operate mobile devices, company email, various software systems and operate GPS unit.
- Follow safe loading and unloading procedures.
- Maintains appropriate logs/records.
- Communicate transport details with dispatch.
- Possess a friendly and courteous attitude when transporting clients.
- Clean and maintain vehicles
REQUIRED MINIMUM EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
- High School or Equivalent
- Fluent in English
- Current CPR certification (preferred; company will pay for you to receive within first 30 days of employment)
- First Aid Certification (preferred; the company will pay for you to receive within first 30 days of employment)
- Driving 5 years
- 25 years of age
- Hold a current valid driver's license and have an excellent driving record.
- Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screening, MVR screening, and background check.
- Report to work on time and in proper uniform.
- Maintain a strong attendance record.
- Safely operate a wheelchair or stretcher van.
- Must be reliable and capable of working independently.
- Must have reliable transportation to and from work.
- Must be flexible to work early morning, mid-morning, or late evening hours.
- Must be flexible to be placed on-call for after-hours, holidays, and weekends when rotated.
ABILITIES AND SKILLS:
- Ability to quickly learn routing technology.
- Excellent judgment and ability to prioritized and handle multiple requests calmly and effectively.
- Basic English reading and writing skills; bilingual is desired but not required.
- Knowledge of hospital layout and procedures; some knowledge of equipment handling (preferred)
- Ability to use age-appropriate communication skills.
- Good reasoning ability.
- Detail-oriented.
- Knowledge of hospital policies and procedures (preferred).
- Promptness, empathy, and genuine interest as perceived by patients, co-workers, and staff.
- Ability to assess patient needs during transport.
- Skill in patient transport techniques and safe use of the vehicle (preferred).
- Must be able to follow written/verbal instructions.
- Flexible to changing work priorities/schedules.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Ability to lift, push, pull, and position clients frequently.
- Ability to perform considerable reaching, stooping, and bending.
- The employee must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. occasionally.
