What are the responsibilities and job description for the Access Control Sergeant (Welcome Center) position at Ocean Reef Community Association?
SUMMARY
The Ocean Reef Community is a private, gated community with only one vehicle and pedestrian entrance. Entry into the community is managed by the Ocean Reef Community Association’s (ORCA) Public Safety Department via Access Control. Access control is considered the first layer of security for ORCA and is essential to the safety and security of the community. The Welcome Center is part of the first level of security and its staff supports the effort by processing persons seeking access to the Ocean Reef Community. The process includes conducting queries on multiple open-source databases and providing access cards to qualifying individuals. The Welcome Center Sergeant ensures that day-to-day operations at the Welcome Center run effectively and efficiently for the safety of the Ocean Reef Community, while maintaining a customer service and hospitable approach.
SPECIFIC DUTIES (INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO)
- Monitors personnel's productivity and provides constructive feedback.
- Provides quality service by enforcing customer service and professionalism.
- Organizes workflow and ensures that employees understand their duties.
- Schedules personnel and assigns tasks.
- Keeps and maintains a log of daily, monthly, and yearly statistics.
- Maintains an inventory of supplies and equipment.
- Reports any maintenance issues with equipment.
- Implements and enforces all policies and procedures.
- Coaches, counsels, and disciplines employees as needed.
- Communicates important information to the Access Control Manager.
- Sets goals and deadlines and appraises good job performance.
- Maintains a safe and healthy work environment.
- Assists the Access Control Manager with employee and customer concerns.
- Conducts employee performance reviews.
- Tracks and Monitors Welcome Center team hours.
- Executes disciplinary action when necessary.
- Motivates employees and ensuring/maintaining focus at the Welcome Center.
- Maintains an overall management style that follows Public Safety best practices.
- Performs additional duties as determined by the Access Control Manager.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Ability to interpret and enforce policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of public safety access control components with emphasis on security.
- Knowledge of computers, data, and word processing.
- Strong leadership skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office.
- Ability to make decisions and resolve problems.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships within the workplace.
- Ability to work independently and demonstrate initiative.
- Ability to organize tasks and meet deadlines.
- Ability to read, write, and speak English and to communicate effectively (both written and oral).
- Ability to stand, talk, listen, and sit in one place for prolonged periods of time.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Education
High school diploma or equivalent is required. An Associate's Degree from an accredited College or University is preferred.
Experience
Minimum of two (2) years in a supervisory role in security, public safety, or related field required.
Licenses, Certificates, or Other:
Florida Class D Security License (or ability to obtain within three (3) months of hire) and maintain it throughout time of employment.
Any combination of the above education and experience sufficient to perform the essential duties for the position will be considered.
