Job Description
Position: Youth Care Worker
The Youth Care Worker will work in conjunction with our licensed clinical staff, as part of the team responsible to work with our youth clients, male and female, ages 10 to 18. The Youth Care Worker will help to provide a safe and therapeutic environment for emotionally traumatized youth. Successful candidates should be self-starters, positive role models, are good listeners and have outstanding problem-solving skills.
Essential Functions:
- Work as an integral member of the Residential Treatment team. This responsibility necessitates building and maintaining strong, nurturing relationships with the clients and staff of the Residential youth home always observing professional boundaries; effectively communicating with all; and proving leadership in advocacy and support for clients in care.
- Develops and maintains appropriate coaching relationships with the clients.
- Promotes positive staff/youth interactions through role modeling and teaching.
- Creates a welcoming and calming atmosphere and exhibits excellent role model skills to effectively resolve conflict.
- Maintain appropriate professional and personal boundaries with staff, caregivers, youth, referring agencies, and community resources.
- Complies with and supports others in complying with Agency Policies and Procedures, licensing and CARF standards.
- Utilize staff log to document incidents which might serve as critical information to staff assigned to the youth’s case.
- Completes all necessary paperwork and documentation per Agency standards, including incident documentation.
- Responsible for transporting youth when needed to appointments or treatment meetings as assigned by supervisor.
· To supervise clients in their care assuring that a safe and therapeutic environment is maintained, during assigned shift (1st, 2nd, 3rd).
· To handle emergency situations such as environmental, weather related, physical injury.
· Provide crisis intervention to clients according to residential treatment center policies and procedures.
· To develop and consistently implement structured routines for daily functioning, including wake-up, hygiene, meals and bedtime.
· Plans and organizes activities and educational groups for clients which promote change and growth in areas of social skill building, physical, emotional and mental development, according to treatment plans.
· Implement activities consistent with Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for treatment.
· To complete all required documentation, which could be electronic or paper. This includes all TBS notes, mandatory logs; included but not limited to the following, daily logs, night logs, communication logs, morning logs and any other required documentation.
· Complete all required training, both in person and online through the agency’s learning management system.
· Appropriately utilizes TCI physical techniques.
· Maintains regular and reliable attendance.
· May be involved in the planning, organization, and implementation of special events or department specific projects or seasonal program changes.
· In times of need, may be asked to complete related duties other than those indicated above as assigned by their supervisor.
Performance/Physical Requirements:
· Work is performed in a residential youth home and wherever clients go on the surrounding campus and in the community.
· Ability to physically restrain clients whose ages, heights and weights vary.
· Driver’s license with safe driving record in accordance with agency policy.
· English reading and writing skills.
· Interacts verbally with clients, families, co-workers and representatives from outside agencies.
· Attention to detail and confidentiality.
· Ability and willingness to work holidays.
· Team player.
· TCI physical training is an essential function of the position and must be completed to the satisfaction of the instructor.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $16.00 - $18.00 per hour
Expected hours: No less than 40 per week
