GENERAL DESCRIPTION: The customer service representative (CSR) is responsible for answering and resolving patient inquiries via the customer service phone lines. These inquiries may include patient billing questions, health insurance company calls, explaining and collecting patient payments, and other customer service needs. The CSR is responsible for maintaining high professionalism with the caller and coordinating with other departments in the company, such as billing and posting, to resolve any issues.
FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt TYPE OF POSITION: Full-Time
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES
· Handles incoming customer service call inquiries and problems.
· Greet customers warmly and ascertain the problem or reason for calling.
· Responsible for maintaining a high level of professionalism with clients and works to establish a positive rapport with every caller.
· Access various websites and other resources to confirm that the insurance information is accurate and active.
· Documents information provided by insurance companies, healthcare providers, and patients to ensure accounts are handled correctly and timely. Forward the information to the correct department supervisor.
· Maintains knowledge of medical language, billing processes, company policies, and ongoing issues to ensure patients and insurance companies are provided accurate information.
· Handles collections and unpaid accounts and sets up payment arrangements. Communicates with patients by phone, establishes payment plans, and coordinates with collection agencies as needed.
WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT
· One to Two (2) years of customer service experience.
· Ability to handle a high volume of calls.
· Ability to remain professional and courteous with customers at all times.
· Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
· Bilingual in Spanish/English a plus.
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
· High School Diploma or GED.
· Healthcare experience preferred.
· Knowledge of medical terminology, insurance terminology, and customer service concepts preferred.
· Ability to operate a personal computer and software efficiently.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand and walk, occasionally required to stoop, kneel, or crouch.
- The employee is frequently required to sit for extended periods of time.
- The work environment is primarily an office setting.
