Museum Educator: School and Youth Programs

Old Sturbridge Inc
Sturbridge, MA Part Time
POSTED ON 8/27/2024 CLOSED ON 9/24/2024

What are the responsibilities and job description for the Museum Educator: School and Youth Programs position at Old Sturbridge Inc?

Do you love working with children? Looking for a part-time job in an energy-filled, social work environment? Come join the education staff of Old Sturbridge Village – New England’s largest living history museum.

OSV is looking to add to the team of museum educators for school and youth programs. Members of this team work with school groups during field trip visitation days, as well as home school and scout groups. Museum educators for school and youth programs teach hands-on workshops like textiles, print, and hearth cooking, among other history-based themes; lead guided tours of the museum; and assist with the daily operations of the department during the busy field trip season. If interested, museum educators also assist with the museum’s popular Night in the Museum overnights; outreach programs to regional schools; and Discovery Adventures, a costumed summer and vacation week program.

The schedule for this position is flexible, with hours ranging from 5-15 regular hours per week, Wednesday through Friday, with occasional weekend work. Outreach programs may be scheduled on Mondays and Tuesdays throughout the fall and winter, as requested. As most schools visit in the fall and spring, museum educators for school and youth programs are busier during these seasons, with occasional hours available during the winter and summer. New educators will be trained for field trip programs in late summer 2024 to be prepared to teach during the 2024/2025 school year.

Old Sturbridge Village, the largest outdoor history museum in the Northeast, depicts a rural New England town of the 1830s. Talk with authentically costumed historians and see heritage breed farm animals. Discover the endless ways to immerse yourself in the Village. Old Sturbridge Village, a museum and learning resource of New England life, invites each visitor to find meaning, pleasure, relevance, and inspiration through the exploration of history.

Old Sturbridge Village is committed to promoting diversity.
