Transmission Grid Controller, Associate
Summary
A successful candidate will have a basic understanding of electrical theory and power system operations, experience or knowledge of switching and tagging procedures, and experience operating power system equipment. The candidate must be capable of acquiring an in-depth working knowledge of power system and operational fundamentals through self-study and classroom training. Must obtain ERCOT and NERC certifications and successfully complete designated classroom training provided through the Oncor Training Program.
Key Roles & Responsibilities
Other duties may be assigned. Directly or through others, the incumbent will:
- Successfully complete NERC CIP training and background check.
- Within one year of employment obtain one of the following NERC Certifications:
- Reliability Coordinator
- Transmission Operator or,
- Balancing, Interchange and Transmission.
- Successfully complete a designated portion of the Oncor Training Program.
- Meet expectation for gaining a working knowledge of power system operations.
- Gain a thorough understanding of Section 6 of the Oncor Transmission Safety Handbook.
- Perform real time control room switching under the supervision of a Senior TG Controller.
- Within one year of employment successfully obtain ERCOT Certification.
Education, Experience, & Skills
- Associate degree in electric power technology or equivalent work experience preferred.
- Basic knowledge of power system facilities.
- Obtain ERCOT and NERC certification within one year of hire.
- Ability to learn power system operations.
- Analytical thinking skills.
Measures of Success
- Obtained required certifications within the designated timeframe.
- Successfully completed a designated portion of the Oncor Training Program.
- Demonstrate effective and clear verbal and written communication.
- Obtained a thorough understanding of Section 6 of the Oncor Transmission Safety Handbook.
- Exhibits the capability of acquiring in-depth operational knowledge.
Transmission Grid Controller
Summary
A successful candidate will have an understanding of electrical theory and power system operations, experience or knowledge of switching and tagging procedures, and experience operating power system equipment. The candidate must be capable of acquiring an advanced working knowledge of power system and operational fundamentals through self-study and classroom training. Must have a NERC certification and obtain ERCOT certification. The candidate must be capable of successfully progressing through the Oncor Training Program.
Key Roles & Responsibilities
Other duties may be assigned. Directly or through others, the incumbent will:
- Successfully complete NERC CIP training and background check.
- Within one year of employment successfully obtain ERCOT Certification (if not already certified).
- Will successfully demonstrate, through simulations and exercises, operational skills and knowledge learned throughout the training based on Oncor operating procedures.
- Have thorough understanding of operating Oncor procedures.
- At the completion of the Oncor Training Program, must show proficiency in all areas of system operations.
- Perform real time control room switching under minimal supervision.
- Effectively communicate information to other transmission entities, ERCOT, and distribution operations.
- Must be capable of progressing to Senior TG Controller.
- Capable of understanding and adhering to Section 6 of the Oncor Transmission Safety Handbook.
Education, Experience, & Skills
- Associate degree in electric power technology or equivalent work experience.
- Basic knowledge of power system facilities
- Currently have one of the following NERC Certifications:
- Reliability Coordinator
- Transmission Operator or,
- Balancing, Interchange and Transmission.
- Ability to learn advanced power system operations.
- Analytical thinking skills.

- Obtain and maintain required certifications.
- Complete simulations and exercises in an acceptable manner.
- Perform duties and responsibilities under supervision of a Senior TG Controller.
