The Director of Civic Engagement organizes and facilitates opportunities for students to participate in volunteer service, research, and internship opportunities. In addition, the Director will oversee various grants and initiatives relevant to this functional area. They will assist the Assistant Dean of Civic Engagement with oversight of the Meg O'Connell Social Justice and Community Impact Scholars Program and the regions One-Stop initiative.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
Utilizing institutional guiding documents, such as the College's Strategic Plan, Enrollment Management Plan, and Statement on Equity, develop and implement the operational plan for the College's Civic Engagement efforts
Responsible engagement program development while promoting student, faculty/staff interaction in the students' professional development process
In partnership with faculty, local community organizations, and other groups, develop strategic collaborations with local, and national, businesses, serving as point of contact for all employers positioned to provide internship, community engagement, and/or professional development opportunities to students.
Develop and advise cohorts of Social Justice Scholars and mentors. Facilitate regular meetings with Social Justice Scholars to develop service and research projects and other campus initiatives.
Support the development of an annual co-curricular calendar of events centered on civic engagement (e.g., guest speakers, workshops, and training).
Partner with the Office of Career and Transfer Services in providing career exploration, service-learning, and internship opportunities to students.
Serve as Project Investigator or Project Lead on current and future grants related to areas of responsibility
Plan and implement ceremonies, conference presentations, and monthly training events for students in collaboration with other campus offices
Collaborate with Office of Institutional Planning and Research to develop regular reports that will identify potential areas of growth
Assist in the implementation of assessments, including data collection, analysis, reporting, and presentations that measure civic engagement's impact on the student experience
Collaborate with faculty leaders and School staff to develop strategies on how best to provide high quality service to students within each academic school
Support major College events, including but not limited to Open House, Orientation, Residence Life move-in, and Commencement, which may take place during evenings and weekends
Serve as Student Affairs divisional representatives to various committees
Propose annual operating budget and oversee planning for expenditures
Represent the Assistant Dean of Civic Engagement in her/his/their absence and/or when designated by the Assistant Dean
Perform other duties as assigned within scope of responsibilities.
Job Requirements:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, or foreign equivalency
At least five years' experience working in higher education in any capacity (advising, grant programs, teaching, etc.,)
Background in developing and implementing new programs and operational systems
Experience working within diverse populations
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Familiarity with needs, trends, and best practices in civic engagement and/or professional development by institutions of higher education.
Experience with service learning, internship development, or community/business partner engagement
Community College professional experience
Two years of supervisory (full-time, postgraduate) experience in higher education.
Bilingual. English and Spanish preferred, but all languages welcomed.
