The NYC Area Admissions Specialist is a proud member of the OCC Admissions Team and will assist the College in identifying and attracting prospective students from the NYC/Long Island area to attend its campus in Syracuse, NY. This position is responsible for planning, organizing, directing, and implementing all recruitment and outreach efforts and activities to prospective students, parents, families, secondary school counselors and the community.
Under the direction of the Admissions Director, the NYC Area Admissions Specialist will manage a territory consisting of high schools, community-based organizations and other special populations within the NYC metro area including the Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan, and Queens. This position will coordinate student visits to OCC's campus and recruitment programs, including high school visit days, campus tours, college fairs, community events, open houses, job fairs and other opportunities designed to interact with and promote the College and its offerings to NYC/Long Island audiences.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
Develop and maintain contact with a caseload of NYC area prospective students to include telephone, written, and email communications such as live chat, text messaging, social media and other media as they are introduced.
Develop and cultivate relationships with a caseload of NYC area schools, community-based organizations and other connected organizations and populations including prospective students, families, business partners and school counselors.
Coordinate and implement preadmission appointments, high school visit days, presentations, workshops, virtual open houses, career days, college fairs, job fairs and other recruitment efforts; conduct tours and visits for prospective students and families virtually.
Work with individual prospective applicants from inquiry to application, collaborating with staff on the OCC campus to ensure a smooth transition for students into credit or non-credit Workforce Development programs
Keep current on trends and best practices in the community college industry, workforce development, and student recruitment, and make recommendations as appropriate
Utilize Slate, the college's Customer Relationship Management (CRM) software to track and manage a caseload of prospective students. Update and maintain records with current information as appropriate.
Attend regular team and department meetings both virtually and periodically in Syracuse as required.
Assist with, and be present for, college-wide events such as Open House, Accepted Students Days, NYC Visit Days.
All other appropriate duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Associate Degree.
A desire to help prospective students meet their educational goals.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Bilingual: English/Spanish.
Experience in customer service.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Ability to work evening and weekend hours.
Ability to travel locally with periodic travel to OCC's campus in Syracuse, NY.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
Ability to bring energy, encouragement, and positive reinforcement to prospective students throughout their application process and beyond.
Experience working with a diverse population, promoting an inclusive environment.
Strong cross-cultural, interpersonal, organizational, and writing skills are necessary, including public speaking skills and the ability to present the College in a positive way.
Must be able to speak before large and small groups with confidence.
Excellent professional judgment, emotional intelligence, and personal tact.
Basic familiarity with word processing, spreadsheet, presentation and database software tools.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
The ideal candidate will live within a reasonable commute to the following counties: Bronx, Kings (Brooklyn), Nassau (Long Island), New York (Manhattan), Queens, Richmond (Staten Island) and Westchester. The Recruiter will communicate regularly with the Syracuse-based team and be required to travel to the OCC campus in Syracuse, NY as needed.
Additional Information:
Salary range is: $55,000 - $65,000 , commensurate with credentials and relevant experience.
