What are the responsibilities and job description for the Aquatic Field Technician Summer Intern position at Onterra, LLC?
Onterra, LLC, headquartered in De Pere, Wisconsin, is currently looking to hire at least three field technician interns for the summer 2025 field season. This would be a beneficial and exciting opportunity for anyone interested in limnology, aquatic ecology, or lake management.
What you would do for Onterra:
Assist with the completion of aquatic plant studies.
Collect samples for lake water quality analysis.
Enter water quality, aquatic plant, and watershed data into various databases.
Prepare plant specimens for vouchering.
Perform GIS and GPS mapping in the field.
What Onterra would do for you:
Give you valuable and practical experience in aquatic system studies.
Increase your understanding of aquatic ecosystems and their management.
Teach you to identify aquatic plants that are frequently and infrequently found in Wisconsin.
Provide instruction on small watercraft navigation and aquatic systems mapping.

Qualifications:
Applicants must have completed four or more semesters of undergraduate studies in a degree program related to biology, chemistry, environmental studies, or natural resources.
A valid driver’s license is required along with a willingness to drive a pick-up truck towing a boat trailer.
Applicants must be willing to travel 3 to 4 days per week and work occasionally in inclement weather.
Applicants must be able to work cooperatively with others and possess the motivation to learn while working hard.

Internship Specifics:
Thirty-two or more hours per week.
Approximate dates: May 29th – August 28th, 2025
Compensation: $18.00/hour or more, depending upon experience.
A housing stipend is provided and Onterra can assist in obtaining affordable housing through St. Norbert College.
Lodging and meals, while on overnight field events, are covered.
