Job Overview
Open Door Animal Sanctuary is seeking a Social Media Coordinator to manage and grow our presence on Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok. This role is ideal for a creative individual passionate about animal rescue, storytelling, and digital engagement. The Social Media Coordinator will also support fundraising events by creating marketing materials, assisting with photography, and producing engaging content to promote our mission. This role requires a strong understanding of social media platforms, excellent communication skills, and the ability to produce high-quality content that resonates with our target market. Some weekends are required. Benefits include: monthly bonuses, PTO, Aflac, medical insurance starting in June 2025.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and schedule engaging posts for Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok that showcase adoptable cats and dogs, success stories, and organizational updates.
  • Take high-quality photographs of adoptable animals and write compelling bios to help them find loving homes.
  • Create weekly e-blasts to engage supporters and promote upcoming events.
  • Produce short-form videos and slideshows for social media and special events.
  • Assist with fundraising efforts and events by: Taking event photos and videos. Designing flyers, event programs, and promotional materials. Creating silent and live auction graphics.
  • Monitor engagement metrics and provide insights to improve content performance.
  • Work closely with the Director of Development to align social media strategies with fundraising and outreach efforts.
  • Analyze performance metrics to assess the effectiveness of campaigns and adjust strategies as needed.
  • Proofread all content for clarity, grammar, and adherence to brand guidelines.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest trends in social media marketing and digital advertising.

Experience

  • Proven experience managing social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, TikTok), preferably for a nonprofit or animal-related organization.
  • Strong writing skills with the ability to craft engaging and creative pet bios.
  • Photography and basic graphic design skills (experience with Canva, Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Creative Cloud or similar tools is a plus).
  • Experience with email marketing platforms (e.g., Mailchimp, Constant Contact, Bloomerang) is preferred.
  • Ability to film and edit short-form videos for social media.
  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail.
  • Passion for animal welfare and Open Door Animal Sanctuary’s mission.
  • Willingness to work Monday – Friday, with some weekends required for special events.
  • Familiarity with video editing software to create compelling visual content.
  • Strong research skills to identify industry trends and audience preferences.
  • Knowledge of web analytics tools to measure campaign performance effectively.
  • Experience in advertising through social media platforms is desirable.
  • A passion for staying current with emerging social media trends and technologies.
