Job Overview
Direct Support Professional (DSP) – Community-Based Support
We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Direct Support Professional (DSP) to provide community-based support to a 30-year-old female.
The ideal candidate will play a key role in enhancing her quality of life by assisting with daily living activities and encouraging independence within the community.
The individual requires a female DSP to accompany her to some of her favorite stores and locations—such as Macy’s, Starbucks, Walmart, and Sephora. This position requires a combination of personal care skills, patience, attentiveness, and a commitment to fostering a safe and supportive environment.
Please note that the client experiences unpredictable and uncontrolled epilepsy (grand mal seizures), typically triggered by stress or frustration. A headache is often the first sign of an oncoming seizure.
While her family speaks Portuguese, the client’s first language is English, and she also speaks Spanish.
Responsibilities
- Accompany the individual on community outings and engage in activities on any two days between Tuesday and Thursday, with each shift lasting four (4) hours.
- Assist with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) as needed.
- Support with over-the-counter (OTC) medication administration and ensure adherence to the care plan.
- Facilitate community integration through home and community-based support activities.
- Encourage participation in social and cognitive activities that are meaningful and engaging.
- Monitor the client’s health and behavior, and report any changes to appropriate personnel.
- Collaborate with family members and other caregivers to effectively implement the individualized care plan.
- Provide transportation for community outings and scheduled appointments.
Experience & Qualifications
- Prior experience in home care, assisted living, or a related setting is preferred.
- Experience working with individuals on the autism spectrum is highly desirable.
- Familiarity with epilepsy and seizure response protocols is an asset.
- Strong knowledge of care plan adherence and client monitoring practices.
- Background in supporting individuals with cognitive challenges is a plus.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
- Valid Drivers License and a reliable Motor Vehicle.
If you're passionate about making a meaningful impact in someone’s life and meet the qualifications listed above, we encourage you to apply for this rewarding opportunity as a Direct Support Professional.
