Position Description:
The Accountant will serve as a key member of Opportune’s Midstream team and will be responsible for assisting with the full cycle of the accounting process in this new division. This will include monthly journal entries, accounts payable review, accounts receivable, vendor and account reconciliations, bank reconciliations, revenue cycle and financial reporting as needed and account analysis. This position is in our Northwest Houston, Texas office with responsibilities including, but not limited to, the following:
- Responsible for reviewing assigned company’s monthly closing calendar and meeting clients closing schedule
- Prepare all monthly journal entries, balance sheet reconciliations and bank reconciliations monthly or per the client’s schedule
- Reconcile the subledgers to the trial balance including AR, AP, Cash and Fixed Assets
- Apply cash receipts and cash payments daily
- Work with AP when reviewing invoices for discrepancies
- Maintain workpapers according to client audit needs
- Maintain and updated fixed asset schedule monthly and record monthly depreciation
- Review invoices and understand AP processing as it impacts P&L
- Support the financial reporting close process
- Keep controller informed on client or department issues
- Assist with client/employee training as needed
Qualifications:
- This position requires a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting. Candidates must have a minimum of four (4) years general accounting experience with oil and gas general accounting preferred.
- A high degree of accountability, responsibility, and attention to detail are required.
- Ability to take initiative on projects and deadlines and quickly interpret data from multiple sources.
- Ability to use good judgment with a high level of discretion and confidentiality.Reasoning skills and ability to articulate logic behind decisions and identify insights (beyond basic reporting of events).
- Must have strong professional presence and effective verbal/written communication.
- Exceptional time-management, planning and administrative skills are required.
- Proficiency in Excel is required.
- Proficiency with Sage or MS Dynamics is a plus.
