What are the responsibilities and job description for the Cable Assembly Design Engineer position at Optical Cable Corporation?

BASIC FUNCTION:

Responsible for creating fiber optic and hybrid cable assembly drawings according to the OCC design guidelines. 

  

SIGNIFICANT RESPONSIBILITIES:     

  • Create cable assembly drawings using 3D modeling software (Autodesk Inventor)
  • Identify required notes such as dimensional tolerances, label type and material, specific assembly and packaging requirements, cable pinout, detailed views, etc…
  • Review design for manufacturability.
  • Determine Bill of Materials.
  • Create Technical Requirement Form.
  • Provide design input during Contract Reviews.
  • Initiate and support Engineering Change Orders (ECOs)

Job Scope:  

  • Management Responsibility – None.
  • Communication – Requires excellent communication between all departments.
  • Confidentiality – Understands the need to only communicate the information required to accomplish daily requirements. All documentation and paperwork is confidential to OCC
  • Financial – Respond to the finance team’s request for information in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Compliance:  Must adhere to ISO, SOX and Engineering standards.
  • Travel – None.

 

Minimum Qualifications Required:

 EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering. Fiber optic experience preferred.

 ESSENTIAL SKILLS, ABILITIES AND KNOWLEDGE:  

This position requires excellent computer skills and experience using Microsoft Windows applications and 3D Solid Modeling software. Pay close attention to detail with the ability to complete assignments accurately and help resolve problems. Excellent oral and written communication skills with the demonstrated ability to express oneself clearly and concisely. Must be capable of solving technical problems and providing solutions.  Ability to work in a team environment with minimal supervision, to organize, complete tasks and manage time.  Ability to read and understand product design drawings, schematics, and technical drawings.  Experience using an ERP system such as Syspro preferred.  

 WORKING CONDITIONS: 

This is a sedentary job that requires vision sufficient for completing quality work, reading comprehension and computer use. This work also requires hearing sufficient for normal workplace conversation and training.  The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
