About this position
The senior accountant works within the organization’s cross-functional Finance
Department that oversees the accounting responsibilities for multiple state- and federally funded programs. This position leads staff accountants involved in processing invoices, credit cards, rent, provider payments, reimbursements, and financial reports.
The successful candidate must be able to communicate effectively, work both independently and collaboratively within a small, close-knit team, and thrive in a fast-paced environment. What you’ll be doing
- Supervising a team of accountants and accounting technicians, overseeing their daily routine tasks and ensuring operational efficiency;
- Providing ongoing guidance, training, and coaching to staff;
- Completing the month-end closeout and fiscal year-end (including programs fiscal year-end) closeout on schedule;
- Managing the organization’s accounts payable systems (currently NetSuite, AvidXchange, and Company Mileage);
- Reviewing all invoice batches generated from the payable systems for accuracy in coding and dates;
- Importing batches from payable systems to the accounting system;
- Assisting in the determination of payment methods to maximize benefits to the organization;
- Liaising between vendors and program directors to resolve issues;
- Reviewing, approving, and posting accounting batches prepared by staff accountants;
- Preparing schedules and supporting documents for grant and year-end audits;
- Reviewing and preparing revenue and expenses for specific grants;
- Responsible for knowing the funding requirements and technical nuances of grants assigned;
- Preparing cash analyses;
- Preparing and reviewing grant invoices;
- Preparing and/or reviewing monthly/quarterly/yearly grant reports as required by grantors;
- Reviewing and approving monthly/quarterly balance sheet account schedules;
- Actively participating in the annual in-service training;
- Reading and implementing all organization and program policies and procedures;
- Accurately completing all assigned paperwork and documentation on a timely basis, according to organization policies and procedures;
- Performing other related duties as assigned.
What you bring to the table
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field;
- Four years of accounting experience;
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills;
- Computer literacy and proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, with intermediate to advanced skills in Excel;
- Ability to correctly and effectively communicate in written and oral English;
- Ability to function well in a team environment and understand different perspectives.

Job specifications
- Reports to the controller;
- Non-exempt, full-time, 12-month work year;
- Eight-hour workday, four-day workweek;
- Hybrid work schedule with approval by supervisor;
- Limited evening or weekend hours may be required;
- Employment, responsibilities, compensation and other factors may be affected by changes in governmental regulations, the organization’s contracts, or at organization discretion.
