The Orange County Department on Aging has an opening for a Temporary Aging Transitions Durable Medical Equipment (DME) Program Assistant. Under the regular supervision of the Aging Transitions Occupational Therapist, an employee in this temporary position is primarily responsible for assisting with the distribution, maintenance and organizing and promotion of a durable medical equipment programs offered by the Department on Aging to meet the diverse needs of older adults. An employee in this class will exercise independent judgment on a regular basis in order to assist with programming. Does related work as required. * Background Check is required.

Examples of Essential Functions: Following are examples of typical work activities and responsibilities. The incumbent may be responsible for performing other related duties and responsibilities as required or assigned. A position may not include all the work examples given, nor does the list include all that may be assigned. Assess usability and safety of donated durable medical equipment (DME) items. Sanitize, inventory, repair, transport, and manage storage of DME items. Manage DME donation and loan database. Communicate with community members and professional contacts regarding donation inquiries, loan requests, and general availability of DME. Meet with community members in their homes to drop off or set up requested DME items as needed. Coordinate and consult with OCDoA occupational therapist (OT) with related needs and challenges. Participate as a collaborative member of the Aging Transitions team. Adheres to the department’s safety rules and regulations; Uses computer applications or other automated systems such as spreadsheets, word processing, calendar, e-mail and database software in performing work assignments; May perform other incidental tasks, as needed.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND POSSIBLE HAZARDSAbility to physically perform (with or without reasonable accommodation) basic life operational functions of climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing and repetitive motions of the hands/wrists. Ability to perform medium work, exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or negligible amount of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
