DUTIES: The incumbent of this position works under the general supervision of the Food Service Supervisor and/or Lead. The incumbent preforms a variety of food service duties in support of Nutrition & Food Service (NFS), or a combined NFS/VCS kitchen operation. He/she may be assigned to perform duties in any of the Medical Center or Veterans Service engaged in food Service or food service related functions in each assigned area, and consistent with NFS and/or VCS food standards, guidelines and instructions, the incumbent assists with the preparation, presentation, and serving of food items. Incumbent must adhere to food safety guidelines & VCS Policy. Incumbent must adhere to VCS uniform policy.
WORK SCHEDULE: Full-time, 40 hrs./wk or Part-time, 32 hrs./wk with a rotational schedule to include federal holidays and weekends.
EXPERIENCE: Demonstrates excellent customer service skills in daily interactions with customers, i.e., communication, listening, empathy, conflict resolution, and maintaining a positive attitude. Basic computer skills. Ability to safely lift and transport up to 40 pounds and occasionally lift or move objects weighing over 40 pounds with assistance. Will be subjected to hot and cold temperatures. Incumbent must be able to follow oral and written Instructions; must be able to read menu, labels; must be able to communicate with patients to convey patients’ complaints and/or concerns; must have good interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate and interact with customers and coworkers in a positive, friendly manner.
BASIS OF RATING: The Canteen Chief or his/her designee is considered the subject matter expert (SME) for determining if individuals are qualified to perform the duties of this position.
