What are the responsibilities and job description for the Special Education Paraeducator - Speech Language Assistant or Para position at Orono Public Schools?
- Provide supervision to students in Orono Middle School speech class.
- Assist lead teacher in facilitating communication and interaction during speech therapy.
- Support student academic needs, as well as social, emotional, and self-care needs in a variety of settings as assigned.
- Collaborate with other education professionals, includng occupational therapists to support student progress.
- Support classroom management by helping maintain a positive and structured environment.
- This is a six and a half (6.5) hour per day position March, 2025 - June, 2025
- Paraprofessionals must be able to meet the physical requirements of the job, which entails lifting, bending, and twisting in various settings.
- Be a motivated, self-starter with the ability to handle situations with a calm demeanor.
- A high level of compassion for students with developmental disabilities is essential.
- Flexibility and a cooperative nature are required.
- High School degree, equivalent experience; and holds one of the following to meet the Highly Qualified Paraprofessional requirement:
- At least two years of college credits (usually 60 credits in Minnesota)
- An AA, AS, AAS (or higher) degree
- Obtain the PELSB Paraprofessional Credential
- Has three or more years of experience and meets requirements of the Paraprofessional Competency Grid.
