Otter Tail County is accepting applications for seasonal Watercraft Inspectors. The purpose of this position is to inspect watercraft for aquatic invasive species, inform boaters of the laws regarding aquatic invasive species transportation, and demonstrate how to inspect and remove aquatic invasive species from their boating equipment prior to leaving the access. Watercraft Inspectors will receive training regarding aquatic invasive species and their impacts on area lakes and our resources. With this knowledge, they will work towards the prevention of the spread of aquatic invasive species, educate the public and assist them in becoming aware of the need to prevent the transport of aquatic invasive species. This will be accomplished by inspecting watercrafts at the public accesses in Otter Tail County. Appropriate documentation and completed daily activity reports will be required. This position will be under the supervision of the Land & Resource Management Office.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Inspect water-related equipment for aquatic macropytes (plants), aquatic invasive species, and residual water.Collect survey data on water-related equipment compliance with invasive species laws and travel patterns from watercraft users.Communicate the issues of aquatic invasive species, AIS laws, and procedures to recreational watercraft users and the public.Report aquatic invasive species law violations to law enforcement.Report on the conditions of Public Water Accesses to the supervisor.Perform decontaminations of water-related equipment as determined by law (Level 2 trained inspectors only).Other duties as assigned.
SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
The 2025 starting salary is $18.82 per hour. Watercraft Inspectors that return each summer season can expect salary adjustments accordingly. Mileage for required travel will be reimbursed at the federal rate.The selection process will include an online employment application with supplemental questionnaire and interview.
