Description
The Logistics Manager role is responsible for supporting the operations team and OWS customers with logistics solutions. Initially the role will create workflow processes to manage all aspects of OWS logistical needs, centralizing activities that currently reside in various parts of the organization. The person will also identify transportation carriers to provide the most cost-effective solutions for delivery of goods, both inbound raw material and outbound finished goods. The position is also responsible for managing the relationship with 3PL partners.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities
3PL Management
Manage the cost and service performance of 3PL partners, identify gaps in processes to improve performance in these areas.
Assist in cost analysis of new potential 3PL partnerships.
Monitor carrier impact on OTIF and find opportunities for improvement including leveling number of shipments per day in partnership with customer service.
Cost Management
Experience with shipping compliance management to minimize costs related to shipping errors.
Review current processes for shipment classifications to minimize overspending.
Negotiate carrier rates for various routes - FTL between locations, LTL outbound, raw material pick-ups.
Manage the invoicing and billing processes to ensure on-time payments so that carrier relationships are well maintained.
Carrier Management
Identify new carrier partners to improve performance in all areas.
Negotiate freight quotes to support pricing for customers that require Delivered Pricing.
Provide solutions to procure carriers when they are difficult to find through developing relationships.
Customer Care
Partners with Customer Service to investigate, resolve, and prevent customer cases related to late or damaged shipments.
Monitor carriers to ensure that shipments are picked up and delivered as scheduled to improve service to OWS customers.
Shipping compliance - facilitate process for reviewing, managing, and communicating compliance requirements for customers to ensure they are met.
Data Management
Collects, maintains, interprets, and analyzes logistics data such as routes, reliability of carriers, perfect orders, costs, etc.
Industry Regulations
Understand the transportation industry regulations and apply them to executing the business.
Stay up to date on industry trends and provide solutions to any challenges that arise.
Performance Management
Develop and maintain KPIs to measure vendor and internal performance.
Identify areas for improvement based on these performance indicators.
Requirements
Minimum :
Experience with inventory management, shipping coordination, and warehouse operations.
3 years of experience with logistics and carrier routes
Preferred :
Proficiency in logistics software
Strong interpersonal and relationship building skills to work with industry partners
Strong analytical skills including ERP system understanding
Ability to collect and analyze data to support business needs
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Highly organized and detail-oriented
Ability to multi-task and plan, prioritize, and set goals
