What are the responsibilities and job description for the Landscape Construction Estimator position at Pacific Landscape Management Inc?
The Landscape Construction Estimator works directly with the PLM president working to translate extensive multiyear construction contracts and budgets into operational project details ready for project execution by the production team.
The role interfaces with multiple company functions including sales, finance, and operations to ensure the quality, on time and budget execution of Construction projects. Understanding and experience with project estimation and bidding is critical. The ability to work in a fast pace dynamic environment and navigate ambiguity is required. A sense of humor is a must!
Essential Functions:
Promote strong relationships with the customer community based upon clear and frequent communication practices, mutual trust, and the ability to meet the customer needs. Develop relationship-building opportunities for the customer and the company.
- Ability to perform accurate take-offs and estimates, no one will be the same.
- Able to multitask and work with the owner, vendors and sub-contractors.
- Candidates must be able to work independently, work outdoors in cold and inclement weather, take directions from the Director of Construction & the Owner, and work well in a team atmosphere.
- The ability to communicate verbally and in written form with clients and other types of workers (contractors, supervisors, other PLM staff, etc. on the landscaping team).
- Make presentations when necessary to discuss the project, complete with charts, scaled drawings, digital presentations, and so forth.
- While reviewing plans, propose changes and value engineering to make for a better project for the client.
- Keeping records, including everything from changes PLM made to the plan scope, correspondence to reports.
Maintain job costs per guidelines and assists in meeting profitability goals. Escalates to the Owner and Director of Construction, any proposals deviating from budgets of time, schedule, cost, etc., for workable solution. Provides feedback to appropriate parties regarding pricing, competition and other market observations. Produce billing documentation and conduct customer walk-throughs.
- Perform site analyses that include the assessment of current site conditions including access, plant, soil conditions, lighting, grading, drainage patterns, and irrigation.
- Work closely with administrative support to make sure all contract administration is timely and accurate.
- Other tasks as assigned.

Stay abreast of “Best Practices” in response to market opportunities and competitor strategies to develop and recommend improved work methods and processes.

- Actively participate in and conduct meetings as requested.
Qualifications:
Three (3) to five (5) years landscape design, construction/maintenance estimating, sales, installation, and/or management experience.
- High school diploma (GED) is required, and a Landscape Design/Architectural degree is preferred.
- Two- or four-year degree or certification in horticulture landscape construction/management landscape architecture, sales or related field or experience in field or related position will be considered in lieu of degree or certification.
- Common PNW plant Identification, disease and pest identification, water requirements and pruning techniques for PNW plants required.
- Skilled self-starter with the ability to work, both independently and as a team, on multiple tasks while regularly reprioritizing to maximize efficiency.
- Strong accuracy, attention to detail and organization skills.
- Must be able to prioritize work.
Currently hold and maintain a valid WA state driver's license and current insurance as well as ability to pass a background check.
- Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills in English; bilingual (Spanish English) a plus.
- Ability to work with all levels of the organization as well as customers and vendors while fostering positive relationships.
- Proficient skill level in computer software including but not limited to: Office 365, Word, Excel, Outlook.
