Pacific Southwest Container seeks an Assistant Controller to take on a key leadership role in supporting the Controller in all general accounting and reporting activities. This position ensures the accuracy, timeliness, and integrity of the financial reporting process, internal controls, compliance with GAAP, and the smooth execution of monthly, quarterly, and annual closes. The Assistant Controller will also participate in important projects such as process improvements and financial planning initiatives while serving as a strategic partner to business operations.
The ideal candidate will have previous experience as an Accounting Manager or Assistant Controller. They will possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills, be team-focused, and be able to build strong cross-functional relationships. The successful candidate will have successful experience meeting tight deadlines, performing treasury management functions, completing period-end close, and driving audits to on-time completion. They will also understand general accounting in a manufacturing environment and have managed accounts payable, and accounts receivable functions. Additionally, this candidate must have experience driving the balance sheet reconciliation process.

Duties/Responsibilities
- Performs general accounting functions to support accurate & timely financial reporting.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with operations, supply chain, and production teams to provide financial insights and support decision-making.
- Maintain proper documentation of accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls to mitigate risk and ensure compliance.
- Drives tracking, capitalization, and depreciation of fixed assets.
- Manage accurate recording of asset additions, disposals, and fixed asset schedules.
- Prepare ASC 842 Lease Accounting entries, update Lease Accounting software, and prepare audit schedules.
- Maintains financial reports and records to support general ledger accounts.
- Manage the accounts payable process, ensuring timely and accurate invoice processing, adherence to payment terms, and appropriate internal controls.
- Drive the weekly AP payment processing, including cash requirements preparation, check run, and electronic payment processing.
- Manage the accounts receivable function, ensuring timely and accurate invoicing, cash application, and reporting to optimize cash flow and maintain customer account integrity.
- Oversee the preparation of audit documentation.
- Drive the general accounting period-end close process.
- Prepares period-end close journal entries as assigned.
- Manage the period-end Balance Sheet account reconciliation.
- Ensures GAAP compliance.
- Develop and lead continuous incremental improvement projects within the general accounting team.
- Provide ad hoc financial analysis and reporting to support business decisions, including product costing, margin analysis, and operational KPIs.
- Serve as a strategic partner to the Controller.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field
- 7-12 years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in manufacturing or industrial sectors
- 4-6 years of leadership experience managing an accounting/finance team, preferably within a manufacturing environment.
- Demonstrated experience in process improvement initiatives and automation of accounting functions.
- Strong knowledge of period-end close, GAAP, financial reporting, and internal controls
- Ability to multi-task and manage competing priorities in a fast-paced and demanding environment.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel and other MS Office tools
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong problem-solving abilities and the ability to analyze financial data using Excel.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding company information.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
- Experience collaborating with external auditors and preparation of audit documentation.
- Strong critical thinking and mathematical reasoning skills
- CPA or CMA certification is highly preferred.
- Experience with ERP implementations or upgrades
- Knowledge of treasury management
- Strong understanding of manufacturing accounting practices
