What are the responsibilities and job description for the Senior Bridge Inspector - LIRR position at PACO Group?
PACO Group is seeking a qualified Senior Inspector to support the MTA Construction & Development’s (MTA C&D) Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) Business Unit. This role is part of the South Shore Bridge Painting program and includes oversight of bridge painting work across various structures in Nassau and Suffolk Counties. The Senior Inspector will play a key role in ensuring quality assurance, safety, and regulatory compliance while also supporting junior staff and managing day-to-day site operations.
Key Responsibilities:
Inspect work, materials, and contractor performance for compliance with contract documents.
Supervise and support junior inspectors and review their daily reports.
Conduct pre-construction condition surveys and coordinate with contractors and LIRR stakeholders.
Review and coordinate design submittals for painting, containment systems, and scaffolding.
Monitor painting activities including surface prep, application methods, air sampling, and safety compliance.
Participate in contractor and stakeholder meetings; document decisions and action items.
Oversee work zone traffic protection and site mobilization efforts.
Maintain detailed daily reports on contractor activities, progress, field conditions, and discrepancies.
Coordinate look-ahead schedules and ensure alignment with construction plans.
Track and validate contractor invoices and assist with closeout documentation.
Exercise Stop Work Authority when unsafe conditions are observed.
Support and enforce Roadway Worker Protection Training compliance.
Travel between job sites as needed, including sites on embankments, tracks, and elevated platforms.
Experience Requirements:
Minimum 8 years of relevant experience in bridge painting and construction/project management.
Association for Materials Protection and Performance (AMPP) CIP Level II or BCI II certification (must be valid throughout the assignment).
Experience in railroad operations and railroad engineering practices preferred.
Proven ability to lead on-site staff and manage project activities.
Familiarity with abrasive blasting abatement and NYSDOT Maintenance and Protection of Traffic standards.
Must be able to travel efficiently between job sites across Nassau and Suffolk Counties.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and tools such as AutoCAD.
Expected Hourly Rate: $55-65/hr
