Instructional Aide General Education- Kindergarten

OVERVIEW Under general direction, assist in preparing educational materials; may tutor or assist with instruction of individual students or groups of students under guidelines and supervision provided by Classroom Teacher. QUALIFICATION • A.A. degree or equivalent required; courses in Psychology, Child Growth and Development or a closely related field preferred • Satisfactory work history • Successful experience demonstrating tact, courtesy, positive attitude and maintaining cooperative relationships with those contacted during the course of work. RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES • Assist the Classroom Teacher in planning course of study and specific lesson plans • May tutor individual students or groups of students under the guidance of the Classroom Teacher • Supervise individual students or small groups of students in practice activities such as math and spelling drills • Supervise students at assemblies and programs or during trips • Auditory and visual monitoring of students both inside the classroom and during outside activities • Assist students in reviewing homework assignments and test results • Prepare instructional and visual aids including posters, charts and stencils • Arrange for and operate audiovisual equipment • Order textbooks and supplies and maintain an inventory of essential items • May attend meetings relating to curriculum content or student-related problems • Instruct and plan learning activities under the guidance of the Classroom Teacher • Express oneself clearly, orally and in writing • Supervise large groups of students • Other duties as assigned • With appropriate training, may be required to provide First Aid/CPR. • Deal effectively with a wide variety of personalities and situations requiring tact, judgment and poise. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES • Thorough knowledge of instructional materials used at grade level, curriculum content, and objectives; • Ability to assume a high level of responsibility and independent act
