The Quality Assurance Technician is responsible for supporting production from a Quality perspective. The incumbent will work with the production team to identify, analyze and resolve quality issues and concerns as they arise. Ensures that product meets specifications and that customer expectations are consistently being met. Regularly reports on quality issues, as well as supporting QA roles (such as visual inspections) on the production floor in problem identification and prevention.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Through pre-approved processes, participates in the implementation of quality improvement initiatives to reduce process variation and prevent process and product nonconformities
- Ensures the rigorous application of standards and the compliance to specifications from a quality standpoint
- Assists in communications to internal customers (ie. production floor personnel) from a quality standpoint, and for facilitation of processing of nonconforming material
- Conducts quality tests/inspections (as appropriate for area(s) assigned) for periodic reporting
- Is actively involved with QA testing in one or more product(s) and/or process areas, including all items produced within those processes
- Works effectively within the production team(s,) communicating and participating in a constructive manner.
- Is proactive, anticipating and planning to meet objectives by finding ways to identify potential obstacles and improve processes and procedures to prevent nonconforming occurrences
- Takes initiative and responsibility for needed actions to support quality and business goals
- Helps to define, develop, and maintain quality information records
- Uses basic quality principles, tools, and continuous improvement initiatives; trains others as expertise is developed
- Review and help maintain ISO standards
- Assist and sometimes lead internal Quality and process audits
- Interfaces with internal quality partners, both on and off the production floor
- Uses quality tools (and others) to troubleshoot, identify, and analyze problems to the true root cause level, and works with the appropriate teams and managers to implement solutions to ensure that the identified root causes are resolved. This includes:
a. Monitoring incoming materials including reviewing COCs
b. Maintain and develop new customer COAs
c. Measure and monitor production OEE and KPIs through SPC
- Monitor and maintain the calibration program
- Multitasks on a daily basis, and in so doing, must constantly reassesses priorities in order to best meet both customer and business needs
- Performs other duties as assigned, which may include but is not limited to, additional work on the production floor
EDUCATIONS, SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum High School Diploma, with at least 3 years’ experience working in a manufacturing environment. Previous experience with Quality Assurance preferred.
- Excellent communication skills (written and verbal) with the ability to effectively convey detailed information to coworkers, managers, and floor personnel, with an emphasis on being able to provide direction as required.
- Ability to prioritize in a dynamic environment utilizing a high level of self-initiative.
- Ability to work independently, as well as part of a team, (i.e., get along with others, be punctual, follow instructions, provide direction as needed.)
- Technical skills and QA Lab tools experience – broad exposure base desired
- Ability to uphold Quality standards and follow our manufacturing and production best practices
- Ability to walk the interior and exterior of the plant monitoring, assessing, and interacting with associates (50%-70% of the workday).
- Effective problem solving skills, including but not limited to being able to, and consistently provide, decisions as they relate to quality assurance standards and output inquiries from the production floor as well as working closely with management in order to determine appropriate decision resolutions.
- Language Skills:
Possess reasonable English language skills and be able to:
- Read and interpret (with technical assistance if required) customer specifications and technical drawings
- Write, and/or assist in writing basic electronic business correspondence (email, letters, reports, etc)
- Be able to interface effectively with coworkers on issues or concerns, and be able to respond to questions posed from others within the organization.
- Reasoning Ability: Be able to help define problems, collect data and facts, and as experience grows, make strong, logical conclusions and suggestions for improvement.
- Computer skills: Use of the Windows operating system, Microsoft Excel is required. Knowledge of, or the willingness to learn the basic functions of SPC/DOE software (e.g. MiniTab) is necessary. Other computer skills (MS Word/Powerpoint, etc) a plus.
SUPERVISION LEVEL:
This role reports directly to the Quality Manager, Vermont Operations, and indirectly to the Production Manager and Team Leads
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
General Conditions: The applicant must pass an ASK-intTag, LLC dba Paragon ID specified drug screen prior to starting employment, basic background check, and reference check.
o Security Clearances:
This position requires the applicant to complete, be granted, and maintain, a US Department of State MRPT clearance as a condition of employment. A preliminary and interim security background check must be passed before employment begins, and the full MRPT application completed upon starting employment. All offers of employment are conditional based upon success completion, approval, and maintenance of this clearance.
o Working Conditions:
Works primarily on the manufacturing floor, which requires the incumbent to be able to sit, stand, and or walk for an entire shift. Also, ability to lift 25 lbs or more regularly and occasional lifting upwards of 75 lbs may at times, be required to perform the essential functions of the job. The noise level and/or humidity in the production area can be moderate and fluctuating. The incumbent will be required to wear static, hearing, foot, and/or other personal protective equipment (PPE) as per established production procedures, while performing any of the duties outlined above on the production floor. The incumbent will have to properly dispose of small quantities of hazardous waste materials while wearing appropriate PPE and following standard safety procedures. Must be flexible to work varying schedules and hours as needed. .
