Fire Communications Specialists provide critical communication and operational support to the public, fire departments, and fire companies across Parker County. Working under the direction of a Supervisor, these professionals must demonstrate rapid call assessment, sound decision-making, and the ability to manage high-pressure situations with clarity and confidence.
Fire Communications Specialists are responsible for delivering exceptional customer service during emergencies and high-stress incidents. In addition to answering emergency and non-emergency calls, they are cross-trained as fire dispatchers. While dispatching, they ensure calm, accurate, and efficient radio communication with fire units, maintaining control and awareness throughout each incident.
Key responsibilities:
- Providing timely and accurate call processing
- Offering clear instructions and responsive feedback to callers and field personnel
- Accessing and relaying critical information to support in-progress incidents
- Remaining composed and professional during rapidly evolving emergencies
- Supporting fire operations through proactive problem-solving and multitasking
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED required
- Prior experience in emergency communications, fire service, or public safety is preferred
- Strong verbal communication skills and the ability to remain calm under pressure
- Ability to work in a team environment and follow established protocols
- Proficient in multitasking, prioritizing calls, and handling a high volume of information
- Basic computer skills and familiarity with communication and dispatch software
- Willingness to work shift schedules, including nights, weekends, and holidays
