Position Information
Under the direction of the assigned Manager, the Safety and Security Supervisor is responsible for administering the Parks and Recreation Safety and Security policies and procedures. This includes supervision of the Park Guide Program, serving as the primary liaison between Parks and Recreation and our contracted safety and security services, and developing and maintaining established policies and procedures are ensuring they are implemented, documented, and evaluated.

- Observe applicable safety requirements, use safety equipment provided, implement appropriate safety practices at all times and report immediately any unsafe working conditions or hazards.
- Supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned staff through effective utilization of the Employee Performance Evaluation Program; provide a culture which encourages employee development and practices effective leadership by empowering staff to make their own decisions; recruit, interview and select employees and recommend transfers, reassignment, termination, and disciplinary actions; plan, coordinate and arrange for appropriate employee training programs to provide for opportunity for advancement and to acquire necessary skills.
- With input from the Visitor Engagement Manager and department leadership, recommend department policy and develop and implement department policy and public safety campaigns. Collaborate with district staff on district-wide policy development and implementation.
- Develop, plan, coordinate, administer and maintain operational procedures for all existing and new safety and security related policies in the department.
- Develop, plan, coordinate and administer training for staff to implement safety and security procedures.
- Develop, maintain, and document district-wide safety drill calendar in collaboration with ZEED and BAP.
- Support site and facility supervisors in coordination of planning and execution of annual safety drills.
- Lead and oversee the planning and execution of health and safety trainings for Parks and Recreation staff; ensure and document that Parks and Recreation staff receive necessary health and safety training, including documentation and collecting staff feedback for process improvement.
- Represent Parks and Recreation in cross agency safety activities.
- Manage gate closure schedule development and execution.
- Serve as the primary contact for department-wide surveillance review requests.
- Manage day to day relationship with any department contracted safety and security related vendors.
- Assist the Visitor Engagement Manager in contracting and implementation of any new safety and security related vendors to support Parks and Recreation operations.
- Ensure staff programming development is in alignment with district standards and within the programming scope of the unit.
- Coordinate the Parks and Recreation Emergency Duty Officer program, including training and scheduling.
- Other Duties as assigned
- Three years increasingly responsible experience in security and/or safety operations required.
- Three years of experience in a supervisory capacity required.
- Bachelor's degree in parks administration, emergency management, security management, safety management or related field required. An additional 4 years of related experience can substitute for the degree requirement.
- Relevant working experience in a Parks and Recreation agency preferred.
License & Other Requirements:
- Valid Washington State driver's license with acceptable driving record required.
- Must have or be able to attain a valid First Aid, CPR (adult and child) and AED certification.
- Attain CPR/AED Instructor Certification within one year of hire date.
- Combination of office environment with high level of offsite meetings engaging with community and staff throughout Metro Parks.
- Extensive contact with the public and partner organizations.
- Driving a vehicle to conduct work.
- Sight to read and develop written and visual materials; monitor personnel and assigned operations and activities.
- Hearing and speaking to exchange information and make presentations.
- Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard and standard office equipment.
