NORTHWEST TREK WILDLIFE PARK
Northwest Trek Wildlife Park is a facility of Parks Tacoma, an independent government agency creating healthy opportunities to play, learn and grow since 1907. A five-member Board of Park Commissioners governs Parks Tacoma and is the policy determining body for the park district.
Northwest Trek Wildlife Park is dedicated to conservation, education and recreation by displaying, interpreting and researching native Northwest wildlife and natural habitats. We are nationally accredited by the Association of Zoos & Aquariums (AZA), which ensures rigorously high standards of animal welfare, veterinary care, conservation, education and more.
POSITION INFORMATION
This position furthers the mission of the Zoological and Environmental Education Department of Parks Tacoma, to awaken a connection to Wild Life with everyone in the Pacific Northwest. This position will work with our F&B (food and beverage partner) to help coordinate a variety of daytime and evening rental and event functions at Northwest Trek, from intimate weddings to large company picnics, and overnight accommodations.
In the performance of their respective tasks and duties all employees are expected to:
- Perform quality work within deadlines with or without direct supervision.
- Interact professionally with other employees, customers and suppliers.
- Work effectively as a team contributor on all assignments.
- Work independently while understanding the necessity for communicating and coordinating work efforts with other employees and organizations.
- Observe applicable safety requirements, use safety equipment provided, implement appropriate safety practices at all times and report immediately any unsafe working conditions or hazards.
- Coordinate NWT site service; oversee events and provide guest support.
- Work as the primary point of contact with our F&B partner during events and participate in event space walk throughs.
- Coordinate on-site transportation services.
- Coordinate services for the Hellyer A Frame rental program; act as primary liaison with overnight guests.
- Work with Visitor Services Supervisor to assure smooth day-of event operations.
- Engage respectfully with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds, promoting understanding and collaboration.
- During events, act as the primary liaison between Northwest Trek departments and F&B staff; stay in constant communication with F&B leads to ensure that specific event needs and details are being fulfilled.
- Maintain Northwest Trek customer service standard and assist F&B in ensuring that all needs are met for the event client and all event vendors.
- Communicate event details and needs to Northwest Trek departments, security staff and volunteers as necessary, receiving and providing updates as the event progresses.
- Perform a closing walk through of the facility with F&B staff to ensure that Northwest Trek is ready to return to normal business after an event.
- Monitor guest behavior to ensure a safe event and protection of animals and habitats.
- Act as a first responder for any emergency issues that may arise during an event.
- Coordinate with ZEED Technology Service staff for basic audio-visual support as requested.
- Complete post-evaluation after events and address any issues or problems in a timely manner; report any outstanding issues or problems.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Must be able to handle stressful situations gracefully and remain calm under pressure.
- Must be able to communicate effectively in person, over the phone, via email, and radio with colleagues, customers, partners and vendors.
- Demonstrate strong organizational skills and self-motivation.
- Microsoft Office program experience is highly desirable.
We will consider various combinations of relevant experience and education in order to meet minimum experience, education and certification requirements.
Required:
Minimum two years’ experience working with events, preferably in an aquarium, zoo, museum or other cultural or tourist attraction.
Preferred:
Hospitality degree or certification is helpful but not necessary if the candidate has related event experience.
Experience in a supervisory role.
CPR, first aid and AED certifications (by date of hire).
Basic knowledge of sound, video and lighting equipment.
Environment: This is a physical position involving moving throughout buildings for extended periods of time and sometimes staying in one place for long periods.
Lift, push, pull and move objects up to 50 pounds.
Flexibility and willingness to work long and irregular hours and days, evenings, weekends and holidays.
Work with moderate to loud noise levels.
Hours of Work:
During prime season, shifts most often occur 3:00pm–12:00am
, and the right candidate must be available for regular Friday, Saturday and Sunday shifts; specifc shifts will vary based on event schedule.
When assisting F&B and the guest services team, shift will occur from 9am to 4pm.
