TITLE: Nurse Manager

REPORTS TO: Director of Nursing

$1,000 Sign on incentive New Starting wage! 

$28-$35 wage range

Job Summary: The Nurse Manager provides care to assigned residents in a caring, safe and efficient manner; and is responsible for performing the following according to Parkview Home mission and standards, procedures and individualized resident care plans. Organize, implement, evaluate, and direct facility the Social Services program. 

Qualifications: The Nurse Manager must be currently licensed as an LPN or RN in the State of Minnesota and must keep up with CEU’s for license renewal. Must have a thorough knowledge of MDS processes and understand Infection Control. The Nurse Manager must have experience in geriatric nursing, rehab, safety, critical thinking skills & team management. The Nurse Manager is also required to have an ability to read, write and speak English, and complete and pass a state required background study form which checks for certain criminal convictions or serious/recurring maltreatment.

General Responsibilities:

  • When needed the Nurse Manager conducts interviews and makes hiring recommendations for unlicensed nursing staff.
  • Ensure that all nursing personnel comply with written policies established by this facility. 
  • Participates in coaching and disciplinary process as needed with unlicensed staff.
  • Periodically review the department’s policies, procedure manuals, job descriptions, etc. Make recommendations for revisions to Director of Nursing.
  • Participate in facility surveys conducted by authorized government agencies as may be requested.
  • Assist in admitting, transferring, and discharging residents as required.
  • Meet with administration, medical and nursing staff, and other related departments in planning Social Services, as directed.
  • Assist residents in obtaining transportation to medical appointments, upon discharge, etc.
  • Accurately and completely document Social Service actions and interactions in each resident’s medical record.
  • Assist in admission and discharge minimum data set (MDS) under the direction of the MDS RN.
  • Audit the assessments needed for the MDS per schedule and complete anything needed for completion of charting needed for MDS documentation.
  • Participate in nursing home committees and department management meetings as needed.
  • Participates in the QA/QI process.
  • Assist with facility policy development and annual review in order to positively impact the quality of care delivered to residents.
  • Enter date in to Peerlytics and make updates when needed.
  • Complete provider rounds, make updates to orders changes and update families.
  • Order supplies for the nursing department.
  • Keeping the PPE room organized and ready for new needs for isolation etc.
  • Conduct N95 Fit Testing for all employees annually and new hires.
  • Set up immunization/vaccine clinics as needed and keeping track of immunizations for all residents.
  • Orders/Coumadin/lab Auditing.
  • If licensed as an RN; work with the DON to do weekly wound auditing to maintain compliance.
  • Complete accident/incident reports as necessary.
  • Perform administrative duties such as completing medical forms, reports, evaluations, studies, charting, etc., as necessary.
  • Assist with case management duties.
  • Develop and maintain a good working rapport with inter-departmental personnel, as well as other departments within the facility to ensure that nursing services and activities can be adequately maintained to meet the needs of the residents.
  • Create and maintain an atmosphere of warmth, personal interest and positive emphasis, as well as a calm environment throughout the day.
  • Reviewing complaints and grievances made or filed by nursing personnel.
  • Make appropriate reports to the Director of Nursing as required or as may be necessary.  Follow facilities established procedures.
  • Review with IDT and recommend appropriateness of potential admissions.
  • Maintain close contact with discharge planners from reputable referral sources.
  • Provide nursing leadership to nursing personnel.
  • Review staffing needs when assigned personnel fail to report to work, as necessary.
  • Represents Parkview Home to other organizations as an organization that is committed to deliver care in the spirit of excellence. Be conscious and careful of this when serving on community committees, boards, and in general friendships.
  • Maintain the confidentiality of all resident care information.
  • Monitor nursing care to ensure that all residents are treated fairly, and with kindness, dignity, and respect.
  • Ensure that all nursing care is provided in privacy and that nursing service personnel knock before entering the resident’s room.
  • Ensure that all nursing service personnel are knowledgeable of the resident’s responsibilities and rights including the right to refuse treatment.
  • Review complaints and grievances made by the resident and make a written/ oral report to the Director of Nursing indicating what action(s) were taken to resolve the complaint or grievance. Follow the facilities established procedures.
  • Report and investigate all allegations of resident abuse and/or misappropriation of resident property.
  • Demonstrates/encourages opportunities for carrying out mission.
  • Assists in formulating budget and works within annual budget; assists with recruiting, hiring, and staffing work area at appropriate levels.
  • Acquires resources and means that promote a quality work environment; ensures quality performance and conformance with regulation and laws.
  • Keeps on top of and implements new programs or best practices.
  • Accepts accountability for activities under direct control; plans and organizes work with and for department.
  • Communicates to Director of Nursing any/all education / re-education of nursing staff persons.
  • Exercises sound judgment and decision making.
  • Responds appropriately to emergency needs in the facility (choking, falls, convulsions, fire and disaster situations, etc.)
  • Demonstrates safe use of oxygen, lifts and all to her equipment; utilizes good body mechanics during all transfers and physical tasks.
  • Notifies maintenance and other appropriate staff of problems.
  • Will participate on committees as necessary.
  • Other duties as directed.
