Position Summary

The Clinical Director will be responsible for the quality of clinical care and provides individual, group, and family therapy sessions for clients in Partial Hospitalization (PHP) and Intensive Outpatient (IOP) levels of care. The Clinical Director role consists of direct clinical care, providing clinical supervision to clinical team members and interns, developing and improving group curriculum, and supporting overall care coordination. This position is responsible for assessing the therapeutic needs of the individuals and families, and for developing appropriate treatment plans. The Clinical Director acts as the primary point of contact for clients and families throughout the treatment process and serves as a client advocate with the treatment team. Position acts as a liaison with referral sources, clinical partners, and internal resources to coordinate care throughout the treatment process.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Exemplifies our 5 Star Service to clients, team members, referents, and families.
  • Assesses the therapeutic needs of clients, determining appropriate interventions, and conducting individual and group therapy sessions in accordance with these needs.
  • Assists with the creation and coordination of clinical program schedules in partnership with the Executive Director and clinical team members.
  • Oversees weekly group assignments and topics to ensure balanced therapist workloads and programming tailored to current cohort needs.
  • Completes psychosocial evaluations, treatment plans, session notes, discharge plans and other reports required for each client in compliance with State, accrediting bodies, quality guidelines and payor source guidelines.
  • Supports clinical team in meeting documentation and utilization review deadlines and requirements.
  • Provides clinical coverage in the absence of the Executive Director to include precertification of new admissions, urgent/emergent clinical decision making and facilitation of treatment team meetings.
  • Provides mentorship and supervision to associate level clinicians and interns.
  • Conducts weekly individual and family therapy sessions for assigned caseload.
  • Monitors behavioral interventions for clients and provides skills coaching, as needed.
  • Conducts specialized groups as assigned based on education, training, and experience; supervises or co-leads groups with staff or interns when appropriate.
  • Maintains therapeutic relationship with clients using praise and other reinforcers to encourage appropriate behaviors and attitudes, setting limits and maintaining therapeutic boundaries in a kind and firm manner.
  • Utilizes effective verbal crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques, involving other staff as needed.
  • Collaborates with an interdisciplinary team to coordinate client care from admission through discharge.
  • Co-facilitates weekly clinical, consultation and business meetings; present cases to be discussed as pre-assigned.
  • Completes documentation in a timely and accurate manner reflecting ongoing assessment of clients clinical presentation and behaviors in accordance with policy and procedures.
  • Communicates client progress with the referral source, family, parent, or guardian informed of treatment goals and plans, as appropriate.
  • Leverages the referral process to build relationships with new referents and engages in collaboration with referents.
  • Welcomes clients, visitors, physicians, and co-workers in a professional and respectful manner.

Position requires a masters degree and a minimum of 3 years of post-masters experience in a behavioral healthcare setting, preferably adults in mental health. Position requires a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW), or Licensed Psychologist in the state of Alabama. Previous experience in treating mental health disorders for individuals, group, and family treatment is strongly preferred.
