Migrant Education Program

EFFECTIVE DATE : Immediately

SALARY : $25.09 - $26.27 per hour AA Degree

25.98 - $27.21 per hour BA Degree

Benefits

SCHEDULE : 8 hours per day Monday through Friday

230 day - work year

QUALIFICATIONS :

REQUIRED : (Qualifications which are essential to the position)

  • Minimum of AA Degree, BA Preferred, or a combination of related training, education or experience may be substituted for degree
  • Bilingual / Biliterate in Spanish / English; written and verbal communication skills in English
  • and primary language of target population (e.g., Spanish, Russian)
  • Knowledge of school and community resources available to students and parents
  • Knowledge of K-12 school programs, community resources and state and local graduation requirements
  • Experience in teamwork and collegial group dynamics
  • Knowledge of basic computer software programs (e.g., Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Experience working independently, semi-independently, in collaborative teams, appropriate human relations, time management, and personal organizational skills
  • Flexibility in work schedule (regular home visits, after school, evening or weekend parent / student meetings, evening / weekend community meetings
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation
  • Two years of satisfactory evaluations in current position
  • Two years providing services to culturally and ethnically diverse families
  • Knowledge and ability to communicate the Migrant Program and District philosophy
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Excellent organizational, time management and public relation skills
  • Demonstrated work with migrant families, coworkers and administration in a professional and productive manner
  • Experience in an educational or community advocacy related field
  • Must be able to work outdoors in a wide variety of temperatures
  • Ability to lift or move up to 10 pounds regularly and occasionally lift up to 26 pounds sometimes overhead
  • Ability to stand and walk for prolonged periods of time, kneel and crouch, and twist and bend
  • Punctual and consistent attendance

QUALIFICATIONS :

  • Knowledge and experience using the Migrant Student information system
  • Knowledge of school and community resources available to students and parents
  • Knowledge of economic, social and mental factors influencing migrant students and students of poverty
  • Experience with multicultural issues
  • Experience in teamwork and collegial group dynamics
  • Excellent computer technology skills
  • ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS :

  • Ensure involvement of families on a yearly basis in planning, implementation and evaluation of the overall Migrant Education Program and provide timely response to recommendations made by families
  • Responsible for recruiting migrant parents to the Migrant Parent Advisory Board
  • Provide information, programs, activities, workshops and other communication in a language and form that all parents understand
  • Maintains and submits accurate data and records of the Migrant Program as it relates to parent involvement
  • Works directly with families to identify and remove barriers to their student's educational experience
  • Develop and maintain an understanding of educational initiatives, developmentally appropriate programs, government and social services, and parental involvement activities which are available for migrant families
  • Participate in professional development as it pertains to the position
  • Conducts home visits to enlist support of family regarding the education of their students
  • Assist in the planning, execution and evaluation of Migrant summer and intersession programs
  • Ensure high-quality educational programs to all eligible migrant students, including obtaining a GED or other necessary certifications as needed
  • Connect eligible migrant out of school youth with community resources such as medical, dental, vision, etc.
  • Connect eligible out of school youth with employment opportunities, training and other post-secondary educational and scholarship opportunities
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by supervisor
  • Actively identify and recruit all eligible migrant children residing in the school district / community from 0 through 21 years of age. This includes :
  • Survey the area on a regular basis to confirm the location and presence of migrant workers and their families.
  • Develop an identification & recruitment network with organizations and agencies that provide services to migrant workers and their families
  • Complete a Certificate of Eligibility according to state / federal guidelines for each eligible migrant family immediately upon arriving to the school district / community (For students in school and outofschool)
  • Annually revalidate all families' most recent move information.
  • Share with migrant parents and students information regarding the Migrant Education Program, as well as all school services / programs available to them.
  • This includes instructional programs, MSIS, physical exams, alternative educational programs, and options for OutofSchool Youth, preschool programs, adult basic education programs, GED programs, post secondary opportunities, etc.
  • Refer migrant families to appropriate, health, social or legal services in order to meet the needs of the migrant student's successful participation in school.
  • Prepare documentation such as a recruiter log, which reflects all recruitment time and activities.
  • Attend all required training sessions provided for the recruiter by the Migrant Education Program.
