The Human Resource Specialist plays a pivotal role in advancing the mission of Paws Humane Society by providing HR guidance and operational support. This hands-on position involves overseeing various HR functions, including recruitment, orientation, training, and employee engagement, to foster a positive work culture and drive organizational success. Reporting to the Executive Director, this role will involve a combination of strategic HR initiatives and day-to-day operational support to ensure the success and well-being of our team members.
Key Responsibilities:
Recruitment and Selection
Manage full-cycle recruitment processes, including job descriptions and postings, candidate sourcing, interviewing, and on-boarding for various positions within the organization.
Employee Relations and Engagement
· Establish trust and credibility with employees and managers, addressing concerns with empathy, documentation, and confidentiality.
· Provide guidance and support to Directors and employees on HR-related matters, including performance management, employee relations, conflict resolution, and workplace culture enhancement.
Performance Management
· Manage the employee performance evaluation process and collaborate with managers to guide employee development and growth, including performance improvement plans as needed.
· Support a culture that celebrates success and incentivizes meeting goals.
Compensation and Benefits Administration
· Administer employee benefits programs, including enrollment, changes, and communication.
· Monitor compensation levels to ensure market competitiveness and make recommendations on adjustments annually or as needed.
Payroll Administration
· Process bi-weekly payroll accurately and on time.
· Maintain payroll records and address employee payroll inquiries.
· Ensure compliance with wage and hour laws, tax regulations, and reporting requirements.
· Collaborate with accounting for payroll audits and financial reporting.
Compliance
· Develop and implement HR policies and procedures in alignment with organizational goals and legal requirements.
· Stay updated on federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations to ensure compliance.
· Maintain accurate HR records and documentation to support compliance efforts.
HR Projects and Initiatives
· Deliver HR reporting and analytics to support data-driven decision-making.
· Stay informed about HR best practices, trends, and legal developments, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations.
Qualifications:
· 3 years of HR Business Partner or generalist experience, with expertise in one or more HR subject areas (e.g. compensation, recruiting, employee relations, and training and development).
· Experience in a high-growth organization preferred, with a background in nonprofit or mission-driven environments highly desirable.
· Bachelor’s degree in human resources or related field preferred.
· HR certification (e.g., PHR, SHRM-CP) preferred, but not required.
· Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) with the ability to build relationships and influence leaders.
· Strong planning and organizational abilities, with attention to detail, and the capacity to manage multiple tasks effectively.
· Team-oriented individual who collaborates well with others to achieve common goals.
· Thorough knowledge of federal, state, and local employment laws and statutes.
· Proficiency in HRIS systems and Microsoft Office Suite/Google Suit, payroll systems (e.g., QuickBooks, ADP) and HRIS software.
· Proven ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion and professionalism.
· Capacity to work independently and collaboratively.
