What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director Strategic Accounts position at PBI-Gordon Corporation?
SUMMARY:
A member of the Sales Leadership Team, this position will be directly responsible for leading the strategic accounts team in all aspects of executing the business strategically. As a leader, responsibilities include developing his/her team to levels that consistently exceed the market. Accounts reside in the turf and ornamental markets of golf, landscape, and professional lawn care space. Required to develop and own strong customer relationships that enable development of sound business plans. Execution of plans will require working with many different peers and colleagues.
Specific Responsibilities:
- Lead, coach and develop direct reports that delivers people development and business KPI's.
- Establish and execute the direction of all Accounts by leading the accounts team though the PBI Way of executing business.
- Continually monitor accounts progress to plan and implement actions as necessary to achieve goals while also communicating with the organization.
- Execute goal and objective strategies provided by the GM and VP of the Business Unit to address future business needs.
- Lead cross-functional teams in the development of annual strategic sales plans to increase transparency and efficiency of all stakeholders and align with the strategy.
- Lead, develop and execute customer business plans of combined accounts as well as specific customer account plans that align with the strategy.
- Own the fulfillment process for all accounts that meets or exceeds the expectations of the customers.
- Introduce customer specific programs that align with the strategy of both the customer and PBI.
- Work directly with customer service, production, and leadership in forecasting to ensure in time forecasted delivery.
- Provide business intelligence, which supports company growth initiatives including customer and internal product forecasting.
- Discover new opportunities and be able to work with development and regulatory to successfully deliver upon identified opportunities that would best serve client's needs.
- Resolve customer concerns by investigating issues, developing solutions, and providing sound resolutions to management.
- Manage OPEX and accruals within given budgets for team and self.
- All other duties as may be assigned.
Experience/Skills Required:
- Bachelor's degree in turf Management, business or Agriculture or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum of 8 plus years of progressively increasing responsibility in management roles including prior Sales Force Leadership experience in the Professional Turf & Ornamental, Home Lawn & Garden markets, or Agrichemicals field.
- Prefer broad based managerial experience including leadership, with or without authority, of teams with diverse responsibilities i.e., marketing, business development, logistics, sales.
- Prefer successful track record of profit and loss accountability in an organization of significant revenue size and people management responsibility
- Knowledge of herbicides, pesticides and fertilizers and associated marketplace conditions.
- Highly developed customer service skills with a proven ability to develop strong client relationships.
- Motivated, self-starter with results and solution orientation and the ability to develop strong client relationships.
- Excellent communications and presentation skills.
- Although this position is home-base, extensive travel within the territory is required (70-90%)

Life Insurance with Accidental Death & Dismemberment (AD&D)
PBI-Gordon offers a company-paid $50,000 life insurance policy with AD&D for all full-time employee-owners. Employee-owners have the opportunity to purchase additional life and AD&D insurance for yourself, your spouse and/or your dependent children. The cost for this coverage is based on the amount you elect and your age.
Short- and Long-term Disability
PBI-Gordon offers company-paid short-term and long-term disability plans to provide income replacement in the event you are not able to work due to illness or injury. Short-term disability will provide 70% income replacement up to $1,350 per week and long-term disability will provide 60% income replacement up to $5,000 per month.
Employee Assistance Program (EAP)
PBI-Gordon offers EAP Services to all employee-owners and their families. EAP provides up to 6 free counseling sessions to help you and your family members manage life stressors, solve personal or relationship concerns, and achieve your goals.
Flexible Spending Account (FSA)
PBI-Gordon offers a Flexible Spending Plan in which you can set aside pre-tax monies into a medical reimbursement or dependent care account to help pay for out-of-pocket medical, dental or vision expenses or day care costs. The maximum contributions are determined by the IRS and adjusted annually. This is a use-it-or-lose-it account, meaning any funds remaining in the account following the close of the plan year will be forfeited.
Pet Insurance
PBI-Gordon is pleased to offer pet insurance options for your furry friends through ASPCA. The pet insurance plan is available to all employee-owners by enrolling and paying premiums directly to ASPCA.
Paid Holidays & Paid Time Off (PTO)
The amount of paid time off (PTO) depends upon the employee's position and years of service. Paid time off includes Regular PTO, Personal PTO, and specified paid company holidays.
Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP)
We act like we own the company because we do! An ESOP provides employees with an ownership stake in the company. It's an additional form of compensation directly tied to PBI-Gordon's financial success. All regular employees are eligible to participate in the ESOP the first of the month following 30 days of service PBI-Gordon contributes approximately 18% of total compensation annually with a six-year vesting schedule. 401(k) Retirement Savings Plan
Saving for retirement is one of the most important financial decisions you can make. PBI-Gordon offers a 401(k) retirement savings plan to assist employees with this important financial goal. New employees are eligible to participate the first of the month following 30 days of employment. PBI-Gordon provides a company match of 100% up to a 3% deferral with a three year vesting schedule.
Fitness Reimbursement
PBI-Gordon believes regular exercise helps improve overall health and job performance. PBI-Gordon will reimburse up to a maximum of $300 annually to any employee who provides documentation of payment for a fitness membership
William Everett & Mary Ellen Mealman Scholarship Fund
Children or grandchildren of PBI-Gordon employees may apply for a scholarship under the William Everett & Mary Ellen Mealman scholarship fund administered by the Greater Kansas CIty Community Foundation. Applicants must be between the ages of 17-26 and the parent or grandparent must be employed by PBI-Gordon for at least 3 years to be eligible. Applicants are awarded based on financial need, academic achievement, and involvement in extracurricular/community activities. Scholarships may be used for tuition, books and fees paid directly to the school. Applications are due February 1st, each year.
Tuition Reimbursement
PBI-Gordon offers tuition reimbursement, up to $5,250 annually, for bachelor's level coursework related to their current job or any future job offered at PBI-Gordon
To be eligible for tuition reimbursement, you must meet the following minimum qualifications:
Have completed at least one year of employment with PBI-Gordon prior to beginning course work.
Coursework must be relevant to your current or future role at PBI-Gordon as identified in your Individual Development Plan.
Parental Leave
PBI-Gordon Companies will provide paid parental leave to all regular, full-time employees following the birth of a child or the placement of a child with an employee in connection with adoption, foster care, or surrogacy. The purpose of paid parental leave is to enable the employee to care for and bond with a newborn or a newly placed child through adoption, foster care, and surrogacy. This policy will run concurrently with Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) leave, as applicable.
