PDS Optical is looking for a Lead to complete our Shipping Department! The Shipping Clerk Lead is responsible for providing guidance to production, trainees, and current employees.
This is a full-time position, Monday through Friday, from 4:30pm to 1:00am. The pay for this position will be based off relevant experience.
Must have good computer skills and working knowledge of standard computer equipment, Microsoft Word, Microsoft excel, copier, phone, etc. Must possess leadership qualities such as good communication skills and enthusiasm. Must have thorough knowledge and understanding of every aspect of the department.
Essential Functions

- Must have leadership qualities to lead employees.
- Gather shipping numbers, issues or concerns and communicate daily with the Shipping Supervisor and Manager.
- Must be able to ensure smooth workflow, monitor progress, resolve routine problems and step into any position within the shipping department when needed.
- Responsible for training both new and existing employees.
- Receive and separate trays from the Final Inspection Department and sort regular jobs by Julian dates to ensure the oldest orders are processed first.
- Check the lab ticket to or order form against the eyeglasses to verify accuracy including but not limited to: The color, model, and size of the frames, the address for legibility, and any special instructions.
- Determine method of shipment, utilize knowledge of shipping procedures, routes, and rates for outgoing shipments.
- Be familiar with the process for UPS and USPS.
- Be familiar with shipping processes such as Tracking, Delivery Confirmation, Signature Required, Insurance, etc.
Work Environment
This position operates in the Shipping Department which is adjacent to an optical laboratory. The temperature can vary, and the noise level can be slightly loud. This position also requires working in close proximity to a diverse group of other co-workers.
