Admissions Counselor
Penfield Addiction Ministries is a faith-based treatment center for men and women suffering from drug and alcohol addiction. We are looking for a counselor to work in our Admissions Department. Preference is given to certified counselors and college education. Due to regulatory authority requirements, we may not employ anyone currently on probation.
Primary Responsibilities Include:
Providing admission activities, including assessment, screening, and intake, in a manner that facilitates potential clients that are appropriate to obtain admission.
Performance Standards:
- Fields calls from various sources (e.g., internet, direct referrals, etc.), converting callers to clients when appropriate, and then managing the intake process and admission activities
- Provides telephonic assessment, providing initial contact with referral sources and potential clients, ascertaining the correct level of care for appropriate admission, maintaining follow-up communication with referral sources, families, patients, and clinical program staff
- Sets a tone of respect, compassion, empathy, and appropriate sense of urgency with potential clients and their family members
- Follows appropriate procedures and processes for the intake of assigned clients to assure all information, assessment, and related data necessary for admission and service planning are complete
- Provides complete screening in as much as possible to preclude inappropriate admissions or admissions with incomplete or partial needs that result in non-admission or early discharge
- Assures adequate screening and information gathering to preclude and minimize admission considerations including but not necessarily limited to detox, dual diagnosis, level of need, level of appropriateness, and related concerns
- Handles a variety of calls and referrals that may be challenging with grace and calmness
- Demonstrates ability to be flexible and change direction whenever needed in order to facilitate individual needs
- Documents counseling progress as applicable
- Recognizes important issues, concerns, or other related items indicated by participants requiring supervisory notification and consultation for further consideration or intervention
- Completes all related preadmission case management activities by coordinating services as necessary
- Provides thorough and complete assessment and notification in order to preclude any admission barriers or roadblocks upon arrival of the client
- Remains available for after-hours telephone screenings and consultation with on-call scheduling
