What are the responsibilities and job description for the Executive Director position at Peninsula Dispute Resolution Center PDRC?
The Executive Director (ED) reports to the Board and carries out policies, objectives and budgets as established by the Board for the operation of the agency. The ED is responsible for the overall management of the agency, including the supervision of staff.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES- Ensure that accurate and complete program and administrative records are maintained and archived and that reports are prepared and filed as required by contracts and regulations.
- Hire, train, and supervise all staff and be prepared to fill in for all staff as may be necessary in this small agency environment.
- Participate actively in Resolution Washington, the statewide association of dispute resolution centers.
- Negotiate and manage building lease.
- Ensure general and professional liability insurance coverage.
- Ensure the maintenance of office space, supplies, technology, and any other activity necessary to conduct business.
- Direct the timely preparation of overall agency and program specific budgets and amendments.
- Ensure that sound financial control procedures are followed and that funds are responsibly managed.
- Report on finances quarterly, or by request, to the Board
- Perform routine bookkeeping duties.
- Prepare and file IRS, Employment Security, and State L&I quarterly and annual tax reports, required reports to funding entities and any other report required by law or the Board of Directors.
- Recommend policies to the Board and ensure implementation of policies that are adopted.
- Function as agency liaison to the Board by providing current information on agency activities and through active participation in Board committees and meetings.
- Prepare materials for Board meetings.
- Assist the Board with recruiting, orienting, and educating members of the Board.
- Communicate with the Board of directors, keeping lines of communication open.
- Hire, supervise, and terminate agency staff.
- Conduct annual staff reviews.
- Empower staff to do their jobs effectively.
· Oversee volunteer recruitment, supervision, and appreciation efforts.
· Supervise volunteers as needed.
Fundraising and Other Revenue Generation- Oversee all fundraising activities.
- In conjunction with Board, develop and oversee annual fundraising strategy, including:
- Writing and submitting grant proposals to foundations, trusts, and businesses.
- Developing relationships with prospective funders
- Maintaining and nurturing relationships with current donors
- Coordinate fundraising events.
· Develop and maintain fee for service contracts.
· Ensure establishment and oversight of sliding fee scale and application process.
· Participate and collaborate with Resolution Washington, remain in good standing to receive funding in accordance with our shared mission to provide core services outlined in RCW 7.75
Community Relations- Oversee all outreach efforts.
- Represent the agency through public speaking, media interviews, authoring articles and other related activities.
- Develop partnerships with community stakeholders/agencies.
- Engage with local and state elected officials to raise awareness and education regarding PDRC programs, services, and needs.
- Build relationships with relevant systems, stakeholders, and service providers, such as courts, probation, defense attorneys, juvenile services, Tribal leaders, schools, related organizations, and businesses.
- In conjunction with Board and staff, address service delivery issues.
- In collaboration with staff set and monitor program goals
- In collaboration with staff and Board assess mission related community needs.
- In collaboration with staff, volunteers, and the Board, develop proposals for new program initiatives.
· Coordinate and facilitate existing programs (youth/parent training course, peer mediation program, voluntary law enforcement referral program, housing stability program, Peninsula College Peacekeepers). Create innovative programs in connection with community need.
· Facilitate community meetings and cases as needed, and as time permits.
· Mediate cases as needed, and as time permits.
· Provide 40- hour Professional Mediation Training
· Conduct workplace and other training as needed.
· Coordinate and facilitate Restorative Justice services.
Mediator Practicum Supervision· Serve as PDRC Mediation Practicum Supervisor
· Coordinate team of mediators to interview, select, support practicum participants.
· Oversee and/or participate in certifying mock mediations.
· Certify mediators.
· Ensure quality control of PDRC volunteers and contract mediators.
· Ensure adherence to Resolution Washington, statewide and national practicum standards.
Strategic Planning- Provide direction for the annual strategic planning retreat and carry out the agreed to plans.

- Hold a BA degree in Alternative Dispute Resolution or Business or have an experiential background equivalent.
- Hold a mediation certification from Washington Mediation Association or similar organization.
- Demonstrated people, community and organizational skills required.
- Leadership experience with a nonprofit organization.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate with diverse communities.
- 5 years’ experience as a mediator; broad mediation experience preferred.
- 3 years of progressive supervisory experience
- Minimum of 2 years of management experience in non-profit sector preferred.
- Human resources experience.
- Experience creating and monitoring budgets.
- Experience collaborating with a volunteer board of directors.
- Basic mediation training in accordance with Resolution Washington Standards or equivalent. Advanced family mediation training preferred. (if from out of WA must receive training within 6 months of hire).
- Computer competence (Word, Excel, Case Management, QuickBooks)
- Demonstrated public speaking skills.
- Demonstrated fundraising experience (combination of grants, government contracts, fee for service, fundraising events, individual donations, or membership program)
- Training and group facilitation skills.
· Must be able to lift twenty-five lbs. and able to transport supplies for training and other events.
· Must be able to travel to community meetings and Resolution Washington functions/meetings.
· Must have own car and be willing to use it for business purposes. Mileage reimbursement is provided.
Position Classification/CompensationFull time, salary position (40 hours/ week) with $200/month internet/phone/power stipend, negotiable benefits, and generous annual leave including paid vacation/holidays. This position is 100% in the office Monday through Thursday. Friday is flexible. Salary Range: $100k – $130k annually, depending on experience.
