What are the responsibilities and job description for the Painter - NASCAR position at Penske Racing South?
Primary function of this role will be to prepare, paint, coating protect, wrap and/or vinyl any variety of parts, equipment, and cars for Team Penske, with a primary focus on the NASCAR program.
Responsibilities:
- Prepare any variety of items to be painted or wrapped. Sanding, body filling, smoothing joints and fine tuning to meet Team Penske requirements as directed by management and engineering.
- Paint any variety of parts, equipment, and cars for Team Penske, with a primary focus on the NASCAR program.
- Maintain constant communication of needs and recommended supply orders to be submitted by the Paint Department Manager.
- Document preparation and installation routines and measurements in a manner such that they may be able to be repeated in a consistent fashion by others as needed.
- Communicate with supply vendors, marketing, engineering, and other quality control personnel on a regular basis, working to continually improve our processes for speed and accuracy to ensure repeatable performance, matching the supplied art, and in alignment with appropriate racing series regulations (e.g. NASCAR, IndyCar).
- Prepare bare chassis for painting by placing it on a rotisserie and pressure washing as directed.
- Operate sanders, grinders and other fabrication equipment while wearing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to ensure safety regulations are maintained.
- Ensure work area and equipment are properly maintained and meet safety standards.
- Pull wraps and remove adhesives post-event.
- Travel as needed or necessary for rapid response at racetrack and for other functions supported and participated in by Team Penske.
- Perform repair work to vehicles and composite panels.
- Prepare parts while being careful of maintaining serial numbers and other identifiers.
- Run tape lines in preparation for vendor wrap.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of High School diploma.
- Experience and ability to buff and blend paint repairs.
- Minimum computer skills and proficiency required including a familiarity with Microsoft Office.
- Ability to manage projects and meet deadlines.
- 3 years of paint and body experience preferred.
- 3 years of wrap and vinyl experience preferred.
- Experience meeting tight tolerances to ensure specifications are met.
- Ability to liaise with other team members to ensure projects are completed on time to specification and quality standards.
- Ability to lift and carry objects up to 50lbs.
- Ability to climb inside and under cars.
- Ability to push cars around the facility.
- Ability to stand, squat or kneel for extended periods of time.
