Description
The Controller is Responsible for assisting the Chief Accounting Officer in achieving the Bank’s goals of consistent, high quality and timely data, reports and presentations while ensuring compliance with generally accepted accounting principles and various regulatory guidance for the Bank and its wholly-owned subsidiary, 1st Equipment Finance, Inc.
Essential Duties:
- Daily oversight, leadership, management, evaluation and training of Finance/Accounting department functions such as general ledger operations, loan/leases receivable, corporate net income and sales taxes, accounts payable, fixed assets, borrowings and intercompany accounts.
- Prepare and provide information to be included in the Parent Company’s SEC reports, regulatory reports, and internal financial statements in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) as well as SEC and all federal and state reporting regulations.
- Support the development and control of 1st Equipment Finance, Inc.’s annual finance/operating plan, to include the annual budget.
- Reviewing the SOX narratives to ensure controls are as stated, including assessing the control framework to identify enhancements and implementing improvements.
- Coordinates information gathering for the Department’s SOX-related audit requests.
- Collaborate with EVP/Equipment Finance Officer to develop and/or enhance profitability for this subsidiary.
- Maintenance and improvement of all excel based reports used by the financial reporting division.
- Provide analysis and support in implementing new product offerings.
- Utilize technology to enhance internal control processes in Finance area.
- Organize and assume responsibility for quarterly call reporting and periodic FRB reporting.
- Interface between operations and accounting and finance.
- Organize and be a responsible party in the month-end close process, quarterly financial close process and year-end closing processes including all period end reporting.
- Interacting with internal and external auditors, tax advisers, attorneys and regulators on financial and taxation matters including coordination of information requests.
- Responsible for maintenance and development of systems, including but not limited to, the general ledger, and reconciliations.

Requirements
Education/Training: B.S. or B.A. degree in Finance or Accounting normally required. CPA or MBA is desirable.
Skill(s): Must demonstrate strong analytical with a keen attention to detail. Must be self-motivated and possess excellent communication skills; proficient interpersonal relations skills; proficient PC skills; excellent understanding of accounting standards and generally accepted practices; proficient understanding of federal and applicable state tax requirements, complete understanding of record keeping systems of the bank; advanced Microsoft Excel skills; strong familiarity with general ledger and financial reporting applications. Strong knowledge of regulations, policies and procedures that are reflective of the financial services industry.
Experience: A minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible related experience generally required including 3-5 years’ experience in managing a 3–8-person accounting staff.
