Position Summary
As a key member of the Accounting & Finance team, the Assistant Controller is responsible for a wide range of professional accounting functions. This position will collaborate and support departmental leaders, providing analytical support for key business decisions and projects while engaging closely with the Chief Financial Officer, Controller, Director of Payroll & Human Resources and the Supply Chain Manager.
Controller’s responsibilities may include some or all of the following: data analysis, period-end financial statement preparation, variance review, biweekly payroll support, regulatory and tax compliance, and weekly and period financial reporting that summarizes performance. Strong candidates will be motivated by what they can achieve and how they will impact the next phase of the company’s overall growth and development.
Key Functions & Duties
· Budget and forecast for various sales and marketing initiatives
· Data mining and visualization
· Customize and execute reports in Restaurant 365
· Monitor variances to budget and present findings to CFO weekly
· Develop financial models, diagnostic tools, and/or new analytical methods to identify trends, interpret results, and optimize store level profits
· Engage in annual budget planning and execution
· Assist CFO and Controller with monthly Sales Tax preparation for multiple states
· Assist with GL account reconciliation for period and year end processes
· Present project results and recommendations to CFO and other department leaders
· Utilize multiple sources of data to extract, analyze, and report on various items including Sales, project ROI, and restaurant performance
· Support departmental leadership in the analysis of strategic management decisions to improve the economic model of each restaurant concept
· Support the Director of Payroll & Human Resources in payroll process biweekly as needed
· Communicate across business lines on P&L related items, policies, and business concepts to increase business acumen
· Ad-hoc financial and non-financial analysis
Required Skills:
· Bachelor's Degree in Finance or Accounting
· Minimum of five (5) years of relevant experience, ideally in multi-unit retail or restaurant environment
· Strong knowledge of GAAP
· General Ledger Reconciliation experience
· Advanced MS Excel skills and strong MS Office Suite knowledge.
· Strong analytical, quantitative, written, and verbal communication skills.
· Ability to manage and take ownership of priorities and projects in a fast-paced environment.
· Ability to extract and analyze raw data from POS and Accounting systems, draw conclusions, and report on findings
· Experience with ROI, profitability, variance analysis, and financial forecasting
· Skilled in presenting financial data and managing confidential information.
· Ability to adapt and manage multiple projects and deadlines
Preferred Skills:
· Certified Public Accountant (CPA)
· Restaurant or hospitality experience
· Experience in POS software programs
Salary & Benefits:
PepperJax Grill has in place a competitive compensation and benefits package. The Assistant Controller position is bonus eligible in addition to medical, dental, vision, 401(k), paid time off and other benefits.
The company’s corporate headquarters are in Kearney, Nebraska. This position can be a remote position, but the candidate must reside within 2 hours of Kearney, Nebraska, or within 3 hours of the Omaha, Nebraska metropolitan area. The position will involve occasional travel to meetings in Kearney or Omaha or other meeting locations as needed.
