About the Role:
The Controller is responsible for the overall financial health and integrity of the dealership. This includes managing the accounting department, ensuring accurate financial reporting, developing and implementing internal controls, and providing financial analysis to support strategic decision-making.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee all accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, general ledger, and financial reporting.
- Prepare and analyze monthly financial statements, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements.
- Develop and maintain strong internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure compliance with all applicable regulations.
- Manage the annual budget process and monitor performance against budget.
- Provide financial analysis and insights to the General Manager and other department heads.
- Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local tax regulations.
- Coordinate with external auditors and tax professionals.
- Stay current on industry trends and best practices in automotive dealership accounting.
- Manage and maintain the dealership's accounting software and related systems.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance required; CPA or Master's degree preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Controller in an automotive dealership.
- Strong understanding of dealership accounting principles and practices.
- Proficiency with dealership management systems (DMS) such as Vin Solutions, DealerOp, etc.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to effectively manage and motivate a team members
- Detail-oriented and highly organized, with a strong commitment to accuracy.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Knowledge of federal, state, and local tax regulations.
- Excellent computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Excel and other accounting software.
