How You Will Contribute
The HR Generalist works closely with HR management to provide support and assistance to Museum employees and departments in all areas of Human Resources. This position carries out responsibilities in the following functional areas: recruitment, employee relations, investigations, training, performance management, employee on/off boarding, policy implementation and compliance.
Specifically, you will:
- Serves as the first point of contact for department managers and employees for all HR-related issues. Provide guidance and support to managers and employees on all aspects of employment. Partners with management and staff on employee policies and procedures.
- Ensures compliance with Collective Bargaining Agreements in place.
- Works with HR management to develop, implement, and lead internal employee training programs such as skills training for managers, regulatory and compliance training, etc. May conduct training in areas of personal expertise, e.g., interviewing skills, performance feedback, etc.
- Produce accurate and timely reports for federal and state compliance filings, i.e., EEO reporting
- Maintains and analyzes exit interview data to identify trends and make recommendations for improvements or corrective action. Conducts exit interviews as needed.
- Assists in the development and implementation of employment policies and procedures. Recommends new approaches, policies and procedures to improve efficiency.
- Assists with Human Resources projects as assigned and performs related duties as required.
- Develop and implement labor relations strategies and policies in collaboration with DHR and other authorizing contributors.
- Investigate and resolve employee complaints, grievances, and disputes in accordance with company policies and applicable labor laws and make appropriate recommendations for resolution
- Develop solutions and programs to enhance employee engagement, professional development, and employee retention.
- Oversee the exit interview process, collect exit data and report regularly with recommendations.
- Supports comprehensive onboarding experience with new employees.
- Supports the team with maintaining records for leaves of absence, workers compensation claims and unemployment claims.
- Supports visa process for employees who require sponsorship.
- Supports the performance management process by working with senior HR staff to ensure a comprehensive, transparent, and effective process.
- Supports the annual compensation review process by conducting market research and analyzing compensation data.
Your background and experience include:
- 3-5 years of union experience required.
- 3-5 years of experience within Human Resources with exposure to multiple areas of HR competencies.
- Excellent computer skills. Proficient in Microsoft Office Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Experience with databases and ADP system preferred
- Bachelor’s degree or SHRM certification preferred
- Highly organized. Able to set priorities, manage time effectively and complete multiple assignments on time.
- Attention to detail.
- Ability to establish credibility and rapport with employees of all levels.
- Ability to maintain confidential information.
- Professional, poised and tactful.
- Good oral and written communication skills; excellent grammar, spelling and punctuation. Able to compose standard business correspondence. Sense of urgency and strong customer service orientation.
Position and Compensation Details
- The salary for this position is $70,000.
- This position is Full-Time, Exempt and 35 hours per week.
- This position reports to Director of Human Resources

Physical requirements:
- Able to remain stationary for extended periods of time, to utilize computers and other office equipment required of this job, to perform physically administrative duties in a typical interior office environment, gallery, or exhibit space, and to access most public and staff areas of the museum campus.
- Background check required after a conditional job offer is made. Consideration of the background check will be tailored to the requirements of the job.
