Description

The Director of Training is a key leadership role responsible for designing, implementing, and managing comprehensive training programs that ensure compliance with regulatory standards and foster professional growth across the company. This role will oversee quality-related training while driving initiatives to enhance organizational development and employee capability in alignment with the company's strategic goals. The Director of Training will collaborate with multiple departments, including Quality, Operations, Regulatory Affairs, HR, and others, to build a culture of continuous learning and operational excellence. This role will be based in both Richmond, VA and Petersburg, VA, with hybrid flexibility.

Requirements

Quality Training

  • Develop and oversee the implementation of GMP, GCP, and other compliance-related training programs to meet FDA, ISO, and other applicable regulatory standards.
  • Ensure all employees understand and adhere to quality policies, processes, and procedures through effective training initiatives.
  • Collaborate with the Quality team to maintain a robust Training Management System (TMS) for tracking employee qualifications and certifications.
  • Conduct gap analyses to identify training needs in quality and compliance areas and implement corrective actions as needed.

Company-Wide Training and Development

  • Design and deliver company-wide leadership development, technical training, and soft skills workshops.
  • Partner with department heads to assess training needs and develop tailored programs to support team-specific goals.
  • Foster cross-departmental collaboration by organizing multidisciplinary training sessions and initiatives.
  • Evaluate and enhance the effectiveness of training programs through feedback, metrics, and reporting.

Leadership and Strategy

  • Lead the development and execution of a strategic training roadmap that supports the company's growth and innovation goals.
  • Provide expertise and leadership in the selection and use of training platforms, tools, and delivery methods, including e-learning solutions.
  • Manage training budgets, vendor relationships, and external consultants to ensure program success and cost-effectiveness.
  • Stay abreast of industry trends, regulatory changes, and best practices to continuously improve the company's training programs.

Collaboration and Communication

  • Serve as a liaison between departments to ensure alignment of training initiatives with organizational priorities.
  • Work closely with Human Resources on employee development plans and talent management strategies.
  • Present training outcomes, updates, and proposals to senior leadership to inform decision-making.

Experience & Qualifications:

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Life Sciences, Education, Organizational Development, or related field. A master's degree or equivalent experience is preferred.

Experience:

  • 15 years of experience in training and development, with at least 5 years in a leadership role within a pharmaceutical, biotech, or regulated industry.
  • Strong background in GMP, GCP, and regulatory training programs.
  • Proven track record of implementing successful company-wide training initiatives in a matrixed organization.

Skills:

  • Exceptional knowledge of adult learning principles, instructional design, and training evaluation methodologies.
  • Strong project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Proficient in training management systems (TMS) and e-learning platforms.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to influence and build relationships across all organizational levels.

Physical Requirements

  • Constantly required to see to utilize computer screens and monitors to perform job duties including reading & writing, as well as when presenting information and communicating with others.
  • Frequently required to talk or hear to communicate with employees, candidates, vendors, and others, including presenting information in front of groups.
  • Frequently required to reach with arms and hands performing repetitive motions and using finger dexterity to work primarily at a computer keyboard and with a mouse.
  • Frequently required to sit, and occasionally required to stand or walk to move around primarily in an office environment.
  • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
