PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:
The Residential Services Associate (RSA) is responsible for ensuring the safety and security of residents and the facility.
Position Responsibilities Include:
- Learn emergency and non-emergency procedures specific to the facility and be able to implement and facilitate emergency operations safety drills as directed
- Responds to emergency situations in a calm and decisive manner and communicates with appropriate agency contacts or other emergency services
- Address security and other concerns/issues with consumers in respectful and non-confrontational manner
- Responds promptly and professionally to incoming phone calls and visitors
- Complete timely and accurate documentation regarding significant events on each shift worked
- Follow mandatory safety and infection control procedures and guidelines and uses prescribed safety equipment as needed
- Recognizes and reports all potential safety and maintenance issues to appropriate staff within the required time frame
- Performs housekeeping tasks as needed
- Maintains appropriate treatment boundaries with residents and their families/visitors.
- Has general knowledge of coping skills appropriate for depression and for anxiety.
- The ability to recognize the warning signs associated with suicide and how to respond.
- Consults supervisor when concerned about a consumer’s mental health
- The ability to demonstrate effective listening and crisis management skills in day-to-day interactions
- Effectively listen and establish rapport with consumers and families, and compassionately understand/respect differences.
QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS/COMPETENCIES
- Maintaining continuing education requirements specific to field and position.
-Must have the following:
- High School Diploma or GED
Preference given for additional qualifications, including, but not limited to:
- Individuals having served in the military
- Individuals having experience working in mental health and/or other relevant human services field(s)
- Individuals certified as a Consumer Recovery Support Specialist (CRSS)
- Individuals enrolled in college classes pursuing a degree in mental health and/or other relevant human services field(s)
- Has an understanding of the symptoms and behaviors associated with mental illness and chemical dependence
- Ability to operate standard office equipment such as computers, copiers, fax machines, telephone systems, intercom systems, and other telecommunication devices
- Basic knowledge of Windows office systems such as Word, Excel and Outlook
- Obtain and maintain CPR and First Aid Certification
WORK CONDITIONS
- Flexible work hours including scheduled and/or on-call afternoon, evening, overnight, holidays and weekends.
- Requires person to remain in an awakened and alert state for entire shift.
- Work primarily includes supportive residential setting, but may also occasionally include office and community settings.
- Requires prolonged sitting or standing.
