We are currently recruiting for an energetic and reliable person to join our Training and Workforce development team as a Human Resources Specialist. As a new team member you’ll have the opportunity to help support, train, and champion Pierce Transit’s most valuable resource; its people.

This position supports administrative and technical functions associated with the department's services including Resource Center coordination, assisting with training projects, maintaining learning management systems, and working with tuition and educational partnerships.

With a primary workstation in the employee Resource Center, you will often serve as the first point of contact for the department, have frequent internal customer interactions, and opportunities to respond to a variety of training and development needs. The ability to adapt to changing or competing priorities, while providing excellent customer service will be of vital importance.
   
Success in this position will also require you to be well-versed in professional writing and social media experience OR a desire to expand your skills in support of these functions is a must. Additionally, our ideal candidate understands the importance of valuing and respecting every employee and can communicate effectively with people from very diverse backgrounds and experiences.

Pierce Transit offers $5,000 per year (up to a total of $18,000) in Tuition Assistance after your one-year anniversary. Certifications, and career skills must be connected to a job at Pierce Transit.

Pierce Transit employees participate in the Washington Public Employees’ Retirement System (PERS) administered by the Department of Retirement Systems (DRS).   Employees must elect to participate in PERS Plan 2 or PERS Plan 3. Employees who have participated in the Tacoma Employee’s Retirement System (TERS) may elect to continue to participate in that system.

Employees in the PERS system do not pay the 6.2% Social Security tax, but are still responsible for a 1.45% payment for Medicare.

Pierce Transit provides an ORCA Card benefit for each employee and a family member. This benefit provides free access to service on Pierce Transit, Sound Transit, Community Transit, Everett Transit, King County Metro, Kitsap Transit, Seattle Monorail, Seattle Streetcar, King County Water Taxi and Kitsap Foot Ferry.

PAID LEAVE:

Full-time Pierce Transit employees receive 11 paid holidays, 2 personal paid holidays, eligibility to earn 2 wellness days, 6 days of major sick leave, and 22 days of paid time off (PTO) per year. PTO accrual rates increase per policy.

  • Regularly meets expectations for work schedule, accomplishing assignments, and serves as a source of supply and support for the department, customers, and/or the organization.
  • Staffs the Workforce Development Learning Center.
  • Supports a calendar of events for development activities.
  • Greets and assists with walk-in traffic.
  • Prepares materials for planned activities such as New Employee Orientation.
  • Tracks and supports e-learning and tuition assistance accounts.
  • Navigates and assists employees in locating learning courses.
  • Maintains department's SharePoint site and communications.
  • Supports delivery of metrics and department goals.
  • Demonstrates responsibility for, and handles accurately, the details associated with one's work.
  • Works effectively and productively with others, sometimes in a team setting.
  • Speaks writes and listens effectively in a variety of circumstances, sharing information and ideas with others.
  • Displays an understanding and sensitivity to needs and problems of others.
  • Builds rapport, establishes relationships and relates well to all kinds of people. 
  • Understanding and experience with databases, word processing, or learning management systems.
  • Writes, edits and proofreads content, ensuring accuracy, correct grammar usage, and clarity. 
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Anticipates and adapts to changing priorities.
  • Maintains confidentiality. 
  • Demonstrates regular and consistent attendance. 
  • Performs related work as required. 
REQUIRED:
  • High school diploma, or equivalent and
  • Three (3) years' of experience in a Human Resources, Workforce Development or training environment
DESIRED:
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook and Excel 
  • Experience with design/social media
  • Experience in training and development
  • Public sector experience desired

Education
Any required education must come from an accredited college or university whose accreditation is recognized by the U S Department of Education or the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) or foreign equivalent.
