Position Summary:
The Facility Life Safety Manager is responsible for assuring compliance with facility physical plant regulations including but not limited to routine maintenance of fire prevention, emergency power, water safety and security systems. This role maintains continuous survey readiness through compliance with regulations from a number of regulatory agencies, including the State of Michigan, the National Fire Protection Association, TJC, OSHA and the EPA. This position is responsible for implementing and maintaining the Environment of Care Program, which includes safety and security management, fire safety, hazardous materials and waste management, medical equipment, utilities management and emergency management. In addition, assumes responsibility for major projects involving repair, and renovation.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Maintain a corporate culture of accountability, teamwork, trust, communication, enthusiasm and collaboration.
Maintain current knowledge of all rules, regulations, and standards governing accreditation, licensing, and service provision.
Rounds at facilities on a regular and routine basis, completing facility compliance checklists, reviewing mandatory emergency preparedness drill records, and providing feedback to facility staff, assisting with repairs and maintenance requiring a higher level of skill.
Arranges for and manages appropriate third-party contractor support as needed, including requesting and reviewing cost estimates.
Provides a monthly inventory of deficits and recommendations to the Regional Director Operations, and Nursing Home Administrator.
Ensures that operating units maintain a continuous state of regulatory compliance with Plant and Emergency Preparedness standards through routine monitoring and tracking and reporting of issue resolution.
Assists with the development of Plans of Correction for life safety/facility citations. Monitors and assures that POCs are implemented and documented.
Creates standard monitoring and reporting tools. Supports each facility in achieving target performance.
Develop and maintain department policies and procedures, including appropriate safety policies.
Participates in the selection and training/development of Facility Supervisors. Provides input and expert consultation regarding facility maintenance issues.
Develops/sources and administers training programs including orientation, annual, and focused training designed to promote safety and emergency preparedness.
Actively promotes development of self and others through participation in professional organizations, educational opportunities, etc.
Provides emergency, short-term coverage for Facility Supervisor vacancy.
Ensure compliance with all HIPAA related regulations.
Other duties as requested and assigned.
Knowledge/Skill/Abilities:
Bachelor’s degree preferred
3 years of experience in safety management, facilities management or quality improvement within a healthcare facility
Ability to follow written and verbal instructions in English
Demonstrated mechanical and electrical knowledge and repair abilities
Certified Healthcare Facilities Manager (CHFM) preferred
