We are Maine’s only nonprofit lifecare community, located a short distance from Portland with a resident population of 430 and an employee base of 275.
POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the supervision of the Human Resources Director, the Learning and Development Specialist is responsible for ensuring that mandatory/regulatory training needs across the organization and that career ladders and lattices are supported to promote internal growth and development.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:
- Designs training and development needs assessment and is responsible for the development and implementation of an annual organizational training and development plan and training calendar.
- Oversees new employee general orientation program content, presents the HR portion of orientation.
- Works with clinical leadership to ensure compliant and engaging dementia training for new employees; coordinates and monitors dementia and person-centered care training programs across the organization.
- Ensures that department heads have documented onboarding materials for the first 90 days of employment. Conducts a 90-day review of onboarding and training materials, as well as facilitates 90-day performance check-ins with supervisors.
- Works with department heads across the organization to identify specific training and development needs on an individual basis.
- In conjunction with the CNO, coordinates C.N.A. and CRMA training on-site with credentialed contractors.
- Ensures compliance with labor regulations/keeps abreast of employment law changes and trends as they pertain to training needs.
- Maintains license and certification tracking programs for all employees, ensuring that current documentation is kept within personnel files.
- Maintains e-learning system and ensures completion of assigned e-training.
- Conducts follow up of assigned training and ensures that all required documentation is included in the employee’s personnel file.
- Tracks and audits new clinical employee’s competency-based training. Maintains training in personnel file.
- Schedules, tracks, and monitors in-service education for clinical staff; tracks C.N.A. 12 hours of documented annual competency-based training.
- Assists with clinical certification and/or recertification preparation courses as needed.
- Oversees annual Safety Fair and CARF fairs as needed.
- Performs specific work duties and responsibilities as assigned.
EDUCATION, SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor's degree preferred; Associates or equivalent and combination of professional experience accepted.
- 2-4 years’ experience in Human Resources or professional Clinical role required.
- Ability to understand clinical functions and training requirements for clinical roles in a nursing facility required, Experience in a healthcare setting and familiarity with state and federal regulations preferred.
- Experience with person-centered care and memory care desired.
- Ability to understand clinical and non-clinical job functions to enhance learning and development opportunities.
- Advanced to intermediate to advanced experience with MS Office Suite and experience with HRIS or database software.
- Ability to work independently as well as with a team.
- Excellent communication skills including verbal and written, presentation skills, and ability to connect with a diverse set of internal and external stakeholders.
- Adept with a variety of multimedia training platforms and methods.
- Exceptional organizational and time management skills.
