Under general supervision, this position is responsible for the care of shelter animals and maintenance of the Pitt County Animal Shelter. Duties include: feeding, medicating, and cleaning up after animals; assisting with the reclamation and adoption of animals, assisting with animal assessments and euthanasia of shelter animals; cleaning and maintenance of the shelter; maintain inventory of shelter supplies; managing and running the shelter on weekends and holidays. This position will also give medications and vaccination to shelter animals as well as bathe animals as needed. Reports to the Animal Control Manager.
EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Provide for the daily care of animals to include feeding, medicating, sanitizing and cleaning up after animals during the week, weekends and holidays.Responsible for the cleaning of the shelter to include storage rooms, supply areas, kitchen, get acquainted areas, outside play yards and other areas as needed.Provides supplemental feeding and cleaning up after the animals.Performs and assists with animal’s health assessments and euthanasia of animals.Assist with reclamation and adoption of shelter animals. Provides assistance to the public in kennels or cat area when viewing animals for adoption or looking for a lost pet in a courteous and professional manner.Conducting intake of new incoming animals.Maintains an inventory of animal food, cleaning supplies, various chemicals and other shelter supplies.Performs shelter work during emergency/disaster situation.Operates and manages all shelter operations on weekends and holidays with no on-site supervision.Dispatch animal control officers.Performs other related work as required.
