Job Description
The Human Resources Office is not able to provide status updates by telephone.
The Animal Shelter Attendant performs routine cleaning and responsible animal care work in support of the operations of the County Animal Shelter on a part-time basis. Ensures animal confinement areas are cleaned and maintained in a sanitary manner. Feeds and waters confined animals; makes routine inspections of animals and their cages to monitor health safety cleanliness of cage etc. Will answer telephone if needed and greets visitors; receives inquires and provides information or refers inquiries to appropriate personnel. Assists interested parties in claiming or adopting confined animals. Assists Vance County citizens in surrendering animals to the shelter. Assists in vaccinating animals coming into shelter and caring for sick and injured animals. Take pictures of animals coming into the shelter; assisting in networking and uploading animal pictures and information onto shelter approved websites.
Additional Job Duties: Perform necessary weekend and after hours work. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Ability to use telephone and veterinary equipment.
Ability to be trained in the proper use of specialized animal control and care equipment.

Ability to be trained in animal control procedures.
Must be able to read; write; and speak intelligibly.
Ability to be trained in basic Animal Control Law and regulations.
Physical Requirements
Must be able to physically perform basic life functions of balancing; stooping; kneeling; crouching; crawling; reaching; standing; walking; pushing; pulling; lifting; grasping; talking and hearing.
Must be able to perform medium heavy work exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally; and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently and/or 10-20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
Must possess the visual acuity to use a computer terminal to prepare records; operate equipment and distinguish details and differences when observing breeds and colors of animals.
Additional Information
Education and Experience: Requires a high school diploma and six (6) months of related experience with domestic and/or wild animals, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Requirements: Must be able to obtain rabies vaccination certification status. Must have a valid Driver’s License.
