Position Summary
Perform field investigations of City land-use to assess code compliance, business registration/license, and property maintenance ordinances; perform field inspections of occupied and vacant properties for possible code violations; issue notifications for all code violations; coordinate assigned activities with other City departments and outside agencies.

Minimum Education, Experience And Additional Requirements
Education and experience directly related to the minimum requirements below may be interchangeable on a year for year basis.
Associate's degree from an accredited college or university; and
Two (2) years of experience in any combination of the following areas:
- Property or code enforcement
- Building construction
- Construction management
- Zoning enforcement to include inspections involving investigations, interpreting code, and ordinance violations
- Housing inspection, management, and maintenance
Experience in government preferred.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Possession of a valid New Mexico Driver's License, or the ability to obtain by the date of hire.
Possession of a City Operator's Permit (COP) within six (6) months from the date of hire.

- Principles and practices of code compliance, code enforcement
- Principles, practices and methods of investigation
- Principles and practices of construction safety
- Methods and techniques of field inspection and investigative work, report writing, and documentation of code violations
- Standard legal issues related to field inspections, investigative work, court appearances, and notifications
- Local zoning laws, land use codes, and regulations that govern construction in specific areas (e.g., residential, commercial, industrial)
- Principles and practices of customer service and public relations
- Construction methods, materials and construction sequencing.
- Legal principles applied to code enforcement procedures.
- Principles and procedures of record keeping and report preparation
- Basic mathematical principles

- Conduct Planning compliance field inspections and investigations
- Perform residential and commercial property investigations to assess code violations
- Collect and analyze field data through interviews, observations and inspections.
- Write clear, concise inspection reports and documentation
- Testify in a public court on matters related to code compliance

- Interpret and explain City policies and procedures
- Conduct business in a courteous and professional manner
- Communicate clearly and concisely
- Prepare and complete daily reports
